Has anyone taken a look at the weather report recently? The temperatures are dropping, and we're not so sure we're ready for that bit of fall.
However, as the temperatures continue to drop at night, we continue to catch hints of wood burning fireplaces and the crispness that only accompanies the change in season.
One of the most rewarding things about fall is the ability to guiltlessly eat deliciously buttery, fattening food while donned in sweaters and boots in a comfortable arm chair next to a roaring fire.
It's about that time of year where we flock to our favorite cozy spots to eat and drink remorselessly.
We've put together our favorite fall foodie hotspots that make us feel warm and fuzzy all over (and not just because of the delicious drinks consumed).
1. Freemans (191 Chrystie Street)
This quaint little joint reminds us of a cozy little cabin in the backwoods. All you need is a little snow and a couple of deer in the window (and not just on the walls) and you'd think you're actually there.
Freeman's decor includes antlers on the walls, stuffed animals, flanneled booth fabrics, and dark wood pieces of well worn furniture.

This is the perfect place to go for brunch when, dare we say it, it starts to snow on a Saturday morning. Head on over to this Freemans and make sure to grab some buttermilk pancakes. Then go play in the snow because you'll feel like a kid again.
2. Alta (64 West 10th Street)
If you're looking for a cozy little date night spot, Alta is a delicious option. Its romantic ambiance is created by dim lights and candles among its two floored dining room.
Alta's dark wooden features only amplify the sense of homely comfort the restaurant provides from the minute you step through the door.
If you're making a reservation (we always recommend, especially for dates and special occasion dinners), try and request a table near the fireplace.
We recommend ordering the fried goat cheese and the brussel spouts along with your favorite tapas.
3. Il Buco (47 Bond Street)
If you want to get really cozy and romantic, reserve a table in the wine cellar of Il Buco. When we say wine cellar, we mean an actual wine cellar. Not just a little closet-like stone dwelling underground, but a full on-high ceilinged, bottle-lined stone cellar.
While the upstairs seating at Il Buco is cozy and comfortable, the seating in this cellar is downright sexy. With wooden tables, hanging lights, and stone, the cellar seating is some of the coziest, most romantic date night seating that we've seen.

You really want to try the olive oil sampling, especially if you think all olive oil tastes the same (the horror!). Once you've tasted a variety of olive oils side by side, you certainly won't make that mistake again.
4. The Peacock (24 East 39th Street)
The Peacock has a mixture of cozy comfy benches and fluffy pillows in a hodgepodge of patterns that accentuate the different tones of wood on the tables and floors.
The walls are adorned with pseudo-realist artwork that seem so out of place that they work. There are also a few rooms to choose from whether you want dark and cozy or warm, colorful, and comforting.
If you haven't had rabbit before, you have to try this quintessential comfort food. We're also big fans of the sticky toffee pudding.
,5. Clover Club (210 Smith Street - Brooklyn)
There's something about exposed brick walls, dim lighting, and dark wood that exudes comfort. When you combine that with delicious cocktails or a glass of red wine? We're as comfy as a good book and sweat pants on a cold snow day.

If you're looking for some good food, they serve bar fare food in the evenings. We recommend their lamb burger with goat cheese or their friend chicken.
6. Brandy Library (25 North Moore Street)
This dimly lit place is full of cozy, comfy couches that are perfect to sip on some fine brandy after a crisp fall day.
While its drinks certainly take center stage, their food is an excellent accompaniment to whatever liquid you choose to warm your soul.
7. The Writing Room (1703 2nd Street)

When you mix comfort with elegance, you get The Writing Room. It offers up exquisite comfort food in an elegant, cozy setting bedecked with books.

Maybe we're just nerds, but we get pretty excited about being able to sit in comfy chairs in the middle of a room full of literary works of art while eating delicious comfort foods.
As the name would suggest, this spot has heaps of books lining it's shelf walls. If you're looking for comfort food, you have to try the cinnamon buns.
