Sometimes that boring 'ol chocolate cake just won't cut it when it comes to your sweet tooth.
Desserts are changing... pastry chefs are now delving into the unique (and sometimes semi-crazy) realm of savory sweets, weird flavor combinations, or just plain impossible-to-eat-sizes.
In an attempt to create the next Cronut, Pastry Chefs and Chocolatiers are willing to try anything that'll create the next viral buzz... sometimes, they severely miss the delicious mark and fall into the downright disgusting.
However, this list highlights some of the desserts we'd recommend checking out. Whether or not you have the gall (or dough) to eat them is up to you (and your wallet).
1. Chocolate Chunk Pizza from Max Brenner (841 Broadway)
Melted milk and white chocolate + pizza = slam dunk for New Yorkers.
When you top that with hazelnut bits, bananas, peanut butter, or roasted marshmallows (you get to choose two or go for "the works"), we're not only highly intrigued, we're in love.
[anad]
Best part? A whole pie with the works costs only $18.50. We're pretty sure you can down a whole thing in one sitting by yourself, but if you're not so certain, go for the half. It's only $9.95.
2. Golden Opulence Sundae from Serendipity 3 (225 East 60th Street)
modernbillionaire Have you had the $1000 Golden Opulence from Serendipity? The Golden wealthiness frozen dessert is precisely that – AN overflowing cup with 3 scoops of ice-cream, sauce made up of Amedei Porcelana (one of the world’s priciest chocolates), golden almonds, 23-carat gold foil and little flakes of gold. #serendipity #serendipity3 #goldenopulence #billionaire #millionaire #luxurious #chic #couture #glamorous #bugatti #ferrari #lamborghini #bentley #audemarspiguet #rolex #hublot #patekphilippe #hermes #richkids #lifestyle #rollsroyce #followback #mansion #modernbillionaire
Wanna eat something that has a Guinness World Record to its name? Try the "Golden Opulence Sundae" from Serendipity 3... that is, if you have $1,000 layin' around. No big deal, right?
This little ol' sundae is comprised of the finest Tahitian vanilla ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla (to make it overwhelmingly vanilla-y) that has been coated in edible gold leaf.
It is then drizzled with the world's most expensive chocolate, and topped with Venezuelan Chuao chocolate (you know... the rarest chocolate).
But wait, they're not done yet. Gold coated almonds and candied fruit from Paris that have been soaked for months (they cost $100/pound) are sprinkled on top.
That's not all. A small ramekin of sweet Grand Passion Caviar that has been infused with passion fruit, orange, and Armagnac sits atop this. It is completed with a golden covered sugar flower, chocolate truffles, and marzipan cherries.
No ordinary sundae bowl is worthy of holding all of this, so of course, Serendipity 3 is served in a $300 bowl. Just remember to eat it with your pinky up...because, sophistication.
3. NY Blueberry Cheesecake Crepe Cone from Eight Turn Crepe (55 Spring Street)
We love crepes. But when you make a crepe into a cone and fill it with crazy delicious desserts which we can actually afford??? We're game... especially after ridiculousness from Serendipity 3 we just talked about.
Take a crepe, roll it to a cone, and fill it with fresh blueberries, blueberry reduction, Il Laboratoria del Gelato vanilla gelato, whipped cream cheese, whipped yogurt, custard cream, and chocolate Pocky sticks. Voila! Crepe cone.

If you're not feeling the sweets, they also have plenty of savory crepe cone options. Or, if you wanna get more crazy (treat yo'self!) try their Azuki Berry Crepe Cone or their Lychee Valentine Crepe Cone.
4. Sweet Tsunami from Sugar and Plumm (various locations)
Remember that time when you were in college and everyone decided to go to that bar that served fishbowls full of some sort of alcoholic doomsday-blue punch with a couple of Swedish fish floating in it and about five or six straws sticking from the top that you were supposed to share, but inevitably ended up drinking all by your lonesome until you didn't even remember your own name?
.... not that we're talking from experience here...
Well, this is like that, but in dessert form. It's meant to be shared between 6-8 people, but we take that as a challenge.
It consists of three slices of cake (the Brooklyn blackout, vanilla delight, and coconut dream), 10 scoops of ice cream (mint chip, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, salted caramel, coconut sorbet, and mango sorbet), hot fudge, pineapple confit, salted caramel sauce, blondie bites, brownie bites, mini M&M's, whipped cream, and rainbow sprinkles...topped with a cherry.
Because, ya know, that cherry is just the cherry on top (for realz, tho).
,5. Black Sesame Shave Snow from Grace Street (17 West 32nd Street)
Black sesame is a pretty common flavor when cooking savory food. It's a semi-common flavor when it comes to shave ice.
[anad]
But this shave snow from Grace Street comes with the choice of condiments and toppings. Its black sesame flavor is much more prominent than other shave ice.
Top it with condensed milk and red beans to get really unique.
6. Concord Grape & Anise Seed from Doughnut Plant (various locations)
Most of us have seen a PB & J doughnut at least one time in our lives. But a concord grape and anise flavored doughnut is something new.
Think licorice and grape jelly. Two flavors we wouldn't think to put together, but the geniuses at the Doughnut Plant did, and succeeded. That's a rare feat.
A doughnut filled with anise cream is finished with a glaze made from Greenmarket fresh Concord grapes and anise seeds.
7. Scotch & Cigar Cupcake from Prohibition Bakery (9 Clinton Street)
Prohibition bakery is known for pushing the limit (in a very, very good way) when it comes to baked goods and alcohol. However, we're beyond intrigued by this one.
This little baby comes with this caveat: "Only available In-store and at our discretion. 1 per customer." And we haven't even started with the flavors.
[anad2]
This cupcake is reminiscent of old libraries, a bottle of aged scotch, and some cigar smoke. All wrapped up in a cute little baby cupcake. If you're looking for unique flavors, this one takes the cake (pun intended).
