1. Standard Grill (848 Washington Street)

The pancakes at the Standard Grill are absolutely to die for. They're buttery, warm, and gooey. It also really doesn't hurt that the Standard serves them with their homemade and delicious Vermont syrup.

As for ambiance, the front of the restaurant is light and airy, and if it's a nice day you can enjoy your big stack of pancakes outside. Located directly under the Highline in the meatpacking district, it really is a lovely neighborhood for a pre or post-breakfast morning stroll.

We'd like to recommend the cornmeal pancakes to you, but honestly you can't really go wrong at the Standard with whatever stack you so chose.

2. Clinton Street Baking Company (4 Clinton Street)

The blueberry pancakes at Clinton Street Baking Company are so divine, you'll feel like you washed up on the shores of heaven while you're eating them. Yes, in case you were wondering, heaven has a beach. It's basically an island. 

We're also in love with their banana pancakes, which are also topped with cinnamon, walnuts, and even more bananas. We have to shout out those free coffee refills, too. 

We're aware that this is an article centering around the glory of pancakes, but we do need to give a shout out to their sugar cured bacon. If you're a bacon fanatic, this sugar encrusted bacon is a total game-changer.

3. Bubby's (120 Hudson Street)

Bubby's Pie Company adds sour cream to their pancake batter, which makes these incredible hot cakes extra fluffy.

How can we say this? Basically, they're everything you'd want in a pancake. Sometimes we're a little concerned that we fantasized these pancakes into existence. They're light with a bit of chewiness, and they absorb syrup like a sponge. Then, sweetness explodes into your mouth with each bite.

You should probably just order three pancakes right up front and not even pretend you're only going to eat two. Don't even try and kid yourself.

They're also served with real maple syrup, which is, obviously, a huge plus.

4. Norma's (119 West 56th Street)

Let's just talk for one second about the freshly squeezed orange juice at Norma's, which is almost as amazing as their French pressed coffee.

Everyone knows when you pop into a breakfast place thirsty and tired, you need to be freshened up with piping hot coffee and fresh orange juice.

Okay, now that we got all that drink excitement out of our system, let's talk about the main temptation here: the pancakes. If you're gluten free, you're in luck. They have them. If you're obsessed with potato pancakes, you're also in luck, because they have those, too. 

The pancakes at Norma's are extremely large and leave you completely satisfied. They also serve breakfast until 3 p.m. which is perfect for all those pancake devotees who don't want to miss out on their shot to dine just because they slept in.

5. The Mermaid Inn (570 Amsterdam Avenue)

Everything about The Mermaid Inn is amazing. From the food, to the vibe, to the service and the decor, there isn't much in Manhattan that's like it.

They've got two locations, one in the East Village and one on the Upper West Side, but what we're here to talk about is the phenomenal Upper West Side brunch. Specifically, we came to inform you about the decadence of the UWS Mermaid Inn brunch's buttermilk pancakes.

They're topped with powdered sugar, sliced bananas and strawberries. We're pretty sure they mix their batter with extra butter, because there's no way they'd be so incredibly delicious otherwise. 

If you haven't treated yourselves to these yet, get on it immediately. You deserve it.

6. Stanton Social (99 Stanton Street)

The Oreo pancakes at Stanton Social are for the obsessive pancake lovers who want to debunk every rumor about cookies not being for breakfast. They are completely divine, and will turn even the most jaded pancake eaters into religious fanatics.

The vibe here is fun and unpretentious (which is absolutely how breakfast should be!), and the pancakes will comfort you in every sense of the word. Get them with bacon on the side for a truly life altering dining experience.

We'd be remiss if we didn't shout out the chocolate chip pancakes in addition to the Oreo, and we'd also like to mention that these pancakes are all perfectly sized. They're big enough that you won't be left yearning for more, but small enough that you won't hate yourself when you're done.

7. Cafe Orlin (41 Saint Marks Place)

Remember that time we discussed fall comfort foods? Well Cafe Orlin brings that concept to whole new heights with their pumpkin pancakes, topped with cinnamon yogurt. If you weren't in love before, you will be now.

What we mean is, once you've tried the pumpkin pancakes, you'll never be the same again. We know. It's easy to over-exaggerate, but it's hard not to get romantic about amazing breakfast.

The home fries at Cafe Orlin are also extremely fresh, and the perfect home fry consistency. They're potatoey on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Cafe Orlin's also got potato pancakes, which are topped with eggs and are every breakfast lover's dream. Their buttermilk pancakes are also fluffy, delicious, and incredible for mopping up syrup.
