On September 26th, the Chef One New York City Dumpling Festival returns. Dumpling lovers can rejoice that there are to be dumpling types from around the world. In past years, there have been Italian, Chinese, and Polish to name a few.
Basically there are no dumpling restrictions. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., in Roosevelt Park on LES, there will of course be pot stickers.
Steamed, fried, sweet filling, savory filling, and any number of wrappers all contribute to the fantastic variables found within the Dumpling Fest.
But it doesn't stop there.
Non-dumpling themed activities include a photo booth, cultural performances (we've heard lion dancers and a beat boxer are in the mix), lucky draws and interactive games.
Plus, this year will feature the 12th Annual Chef One Dumpling Eating Challenge.
It's kind of a big deal.
The record to beat is 90 dumplings in two minutes, that's 120 seconds. That's 3/4 dumpling every three quarters of a second or three dumplings per four seconds.
Excuse us if our math is wrong, we're writers, not mathematicians. But we're pretty sure that's correct. We tried to cross multiply to figure it out, but it descended into a doodle of an elephant.
The point is, you can win $2000 for beating this dumpling housing record. So, whatever the math boils down to, it equals two thousand dollars. That's the important part.
Go to the Chef One New York City Dumpling Festival, enter the contest, and win $2000. Even if you're not the eating contest type, still check out the festival. Tickets are $20 and dumplings are free. All proceeds go to Food Bank for NYC, so get on them dumps, yo!
