New York City is featured in thousands of movies, TV shows, and songs. For good reason, too. 

The rest of the world's got their eyes on us. We have the best sights, sounds, food, people, it's not really at all surprising. 

 But, laughably, Hollywood recreates NYC for some TV show's sets. 

We say laughably not because they actually do it (sometimes it's just cheaper to shoot a fake NYC than it is to get up in there), but because there are too many shows non-New Yorkers think accurately depict what we experience in the city.  

So unlike shows like Broad City and 30 Rock that were actually filmed on the streets of NYC, these shows were filmed in Hollywood on sets that were manufactured to look like the real thing.

These shows include Will & Grace, How I Met Your Mother, and Mad Men, among many other movies and shows. 

How I Met Your Mother drives us particularly crazy in its complete disregard for the reality of NYC. 

The show made it seem like you could always hear each other talking in the bar. Now, you get all of these non-New Yorkers complaining about how they can't hear each other speak like it's some big surprise.

Anyway, the glory and wonder that is Reddit's community recently posted links to aerial Google Map views of Hollywood Studios' doctored NYC sets, which you can see above. 

And comparing Hollywood's fake NYC to real NYC is extremely interesting. Thanks, Google, for photographing almost all of America! And thanks, Reddit for rocking like always.

The second picture is where the opening credits of Friends was shot, and even though it's designed to look like Washington Square Park (pictured first), it's really located in Burbank California, on Warner Brothers' Ranch.

Thanks for the effort, Hollywood. You almost had it. Or something.
