Lately, it seems like a lot of people are stiffing their servers.
We told you about the jerk at the Jersey Shore who not only left no tip, but wrote a scathing note instead. Servers typically make almost no money, but instead live off of the tips they collect.
If your server seems extra sweet today, the following may explain why.
Celebrity Chef Tom Colicchio (ofTop Chef fame) seems to be fed up with the lack of monetary respect given to his waitstaff. In response, he's doing away with lunchtime tipping at his restaurant, Craft.
Instead, Colicchio will pay its service staff by the hour, and do away with the tip line on bills. Customers can still leave a cash tip if they feel strongly.

"It's time for a change. It's time to pay the servers a salary," Colicchio told NY Eater.
While many restaurants have attempted (and failed) to remove tipping from their restaurants, Colicchio strongly feels that this is the way to go, at least for lunch.
If you've ever worked as a waiter or waitress, you know that you really do not want to work the lunch shift. Typically, those hours receive the lowest tips out of the day. Dinner is really where its at, especially on weekends.
Colicchio believes that this is the way to pay servers fairly for the work they do during the lunch hour, regardless of tips. We're completely onboard.
