There's a lot of garbage on Instagram relating to New York City.
For NYC and beyond, there is Humans of New York (and about every other cool city too). It manages to give us a deeper look into the strangers around us and helps us recognize that we're all so similar.
Outside of Humans, so much of what would just be our hashtags is over-saturated with horrendously bad smartphone images of stuff we're used to seeing everyday, but is magically enchanting to the non-New Yorkers among us.
On the other side of that is Lizard People of New York, that gives us a deeper look into the hearts and minds of the reptilians combatting the hardships of humanity while relegated to wearing human skin suits.
But now, an even greater perspective (for a few minutes, and then Humans of New York returns to its paramount status) has taken the stage as, simply, Millennials of New York.
Millennials of New York is a new spoof account featuring photos of millennials looking bored or inspired (our only two modes, besides maybe resting bitch face) with aptly themed descriptions perfectly mocking the daily hardships of our lifestyle.
They cover so much of what makes us tick: memes, relentless idealism, strange obsessions with the morose, combatting perceived ignorance through social media. It's pretty great.
Take a look below...
millennials_of_newyork "My mom is always yelling at me for not teaching her how to use technology. And she’s right. I don’t. Whenever I help her, I instantly regret it. I taught her to use Facebook a couple years ago, and now all she does is comment 'U GUYS WERE SO GOOD TOGETHER' on old pictures of me and my ex. Then I showed her how to Skype, and the only time she uses it is when she wants to show me a photograph on her phone of aunt Carol’s neck cyst. I swore I would never help her again, but then she threatened to stop paying my cable if I didn’t set up Hotmail on her iPhone. Now she won’t stop forwarding me emails titled 'just Thought you should know' full of Donald Trump memes and grainy photos of disfigured fetuses. Next time she asks for help — I don’t care if she’s being fondled by a Roomba — I’m going to tell her to figure it out herself."
millennials_of_newyork "I have a lot of white friends. I like them, but they’re obsessed with trying to convince me that they aren’t racist. Last week one of them told me he couldn't possibly be prejudiced because, as he put it, “I always tip delivery men and cab drivers." Another one is constantly bringing up the time she hooked up with two Indian guys in the same night. According to someone else who was there, it was actually the same guy, just an hour apart. Apparently he wasn’t wearing a hat the second time. I need different friends."
millennials_of_newyork "I’m a professional talent scout. I spend my days walking around the city looking for a subject that I can turn into the next big meme. My primary focus used to be cute, exotic animals-- your slow lorises, your three-toed sloths-- but just being adorable doesn't cut it anymore. Right now, disabilities are IN. Whether it’s Grumpy Cat’s malformed jawbones or Lil Bub's total lack of teeth, people just can't get enough of broken animals! This little guy has diabetes. Type 2. He’s gonna be huge."
