Do you want to talk about seasonal food goodness? Good, so do we. As summer graciously ebbs into autumn, we're sort of hankering for some autumn cuisine.
What says autumn better than apple pie?
Besides piping hot soup, pumpkin spice lattes, brilliantly orange colored leaves, basically nothing conjures more warm fuzzy feelings of fall than apple pie.
Since we're washing into days with crisp fall winds, scarves, and sweaters, we're going to need some warm, delicious apple pie to go with it.
Luckily, we're in a city with some of the best bakeries on the planet. Check out 7 of the best bakeries to get apple pie in New York City.
1. Little Pie Company (424 West 43rd Street)
nataliacbell If there are places without access to some version of pie, those are not places I want to live. | #applepie #peachpie #theapplepiequeen Thank you @littlepiecompany #littlepiecompany
Wow. Want to talk about Little Pie Company's sour cream apple pie? Because we don't want to talk about anything else.
Each slice is filled with tart and sweet slices of fresh apple, and the pie's top is sweet and crumbly. They also bake an apple walnut crumble that's quite simply to die for, with a completely original texture and taste.
Little Pie Company lives up to every word of its hype. Every. Single. Word.
We actually think we may love this apple pie way too much, but we regret nothing (even though our waistlines may disagree).
2. Petee's Pie Company (61 Delancey Street)
theveryhungrykaterpilla I totally thought Fi was talking about meat pies, but of course they were sweet pies/tarts. So many pies! They're sweetened with honey, maple syrup and evaporated cane sugar, locally sourced ingredients, organic flour, grass-fed butter. #peteespie #peteespiecompany #lowereastside #katalinyc2015
Petee's Pie Company's founder Petra "Petee" Paredez grew up pulling all-nighters before Thanksgiving making pies for the bakery her parents owned, Mom's Apple Pie Company in Virginia.
She spent her youth acquiring all the tricks of the trade. Simply put, she knows what she's doing.
Paredez founded Petee's Pie Company in service to a simple concept; baking the finest pie under the sun. If you think they haven't been successful, you obviously haven't tried it. Holla if you feel us!
Petee's bakes their pie using seasonal, local produce and natural, fair-trade producers. Their crust is baked with organic flour and grass-fed butter. They said it themselves and we agree: they make damn fine pie for damn fine people.
3. Two Little Red Hens (1652 2nd Avenue)
Two Little Red Hens has been satisfying cravings on the Upper East Side left and right.
With flaky, crumbly, sublime crust and packed with fresh, seasonal apples, it's to die for. Simply put, if we were pressed to choose our last earthly meal, we'd probably request this pie.
Often referred to as New York's best cheesecake, we're here to debunk that rumor and give mad props to this Upper East Side bakery's divine apple pie.
They've also got the perfect fall pie, their harvest pie which is infused with apples, pears, walnuts, and a hint of ginger.
While the harvest pie is perfectly delectable and completely season-appropriate, our hearts are still with the original rockstar, the honored guest of this article, the apple pie.
4. Four & Twenty Blackbirds (439 3rd Avenue - Brooklyn)
rebellafe Can't forget Saturday's pie. #ididntmeantoleaveyouout #pie #fourandtwentyblackbirdscookbook #fourandtwentyblackbirds #saltedcaramelapple
Four & Twenty Blackbirds sources their ingredients locally, securing their delicious materials for their salted caramel apple pie as close to home as possible.
They sell pie by the slice in their shop, as well as a limited number of whole pies made with seasonal ingredients which are available for purchase on a daily basis.
Here's an FYI about this bakery: once you've tried Four & Twenty Blackbirds' apple pie, you'll never be the same again. We mean it.
Their apple pie tastes like it was baked by angles, and eating it is like consuming heaven topped with whipped cream and washed down with coffee.
If you're craving apple pie, their salted caramel apple will hit the spot hard.
,5. The Blue Stove (415 Graham Avenue)
melodyviolet Today is PI day 3.1415 so we had pie for breakfast. Daddy loves all pies but his favorite is cutie pie... aka ME!!!
The Blue Stove is an alluring bakery spreading its apple pie goodness in Williamsburg. They bake all their goods in small batches.
The best part? All their pie dough is homemade, and every single pie is rolled out and individually decorated by hand.
All this tender love and care explodes out of the pie in its taste, which has more than a hint of cinnamon and is covered in crumbled sugar.
It's apparent how much The Blue Stove cares about the deliciousness of their pie with every buttery, slightly salty bite.
Simply put, their apple pie is crazy good.
Is it the best apple pie in NYC? It's definitely up there. You won't regret a single calorie of their delectable, flaky, nearly perfect apple pie.
6. Betty Bakery (448 Atlantic Avenue)
This lovely bakeshop is located in the heart of Boerum Hill and operated by renowned cake designers Cheryl Kleinman and Ellen Baumwoll. They've been bringing their patrons delicious apple pie (and other baked goods) since 2006.
Kleinman and Baumwoll pride themselves in producing treats that taste like the echoes of grandma's kitchen, but with an updated, modern twist.
Their space is inviting and charming, and their apple pie is drool-worthy, and always beautiful.
This might just be the first apple pie you've ever had that wouldn't taste better with ice cream. It's so good on its own, it'd be blasphemous to even suggest drowning out its taste even with something as luscious as ice cream.
7. Glaser's Bake Shop (1670 1st Avenue)
nydiningguide Celebrating Pi Day with this mini apple pie from #GlasersBakeShop 🍎 #PiDay #NYDiningGuide #nycdining #nyceats #nycfood #nycfoodie #ues #applepie #instafood #pie #NYCFAT #newforkcity #eeeeeats #foodporn #spoonfeed #nom
This gem of a bake shop on the Upper East Side is a family owned, traditional neighborhood joint. Glaser's staff is kind and friendly, and the bakery's interior is infused with history. It's got old-time tiles, signs, and delicious authenticity.
Their mini apple crumble pie is tart, with a touch of sweetness. We'd also recommend their apple danish. It's not apple pie, but it's still incredible.
The best part is that Glaser's prices are relaxed. Beware, however. Once you've tried their apple pie once, you'll want to gorge on it every day. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Oh, it's cash only, so hit the ATM before you hit up their apple pie goodness.
