Get ready for some incredibly shocking news. 

There's not a single neighborhood in New York City that's affordable to live in at the rate of the current minimum wage of $8.75.

Since NYC depends on minimum wage workers to keep the city running, this fact is perplexing. 

StreetEasy conducted a study that found New Yorkers need to earn at least $38.80 to afford the city's median rent of $2,690. 

This conundrum is particularly flabbergasting as the $38.80 per hour necessary for survival in this city is four times more than New York State's current minimum wage.

Minimum wage workers are therefore either forced to live with several roommates, work multiple jobs, or leave this expensive-ass city.

The study also broke down the necessary minimum wage for survival by borough. 

For the minimum wage to match up with the necessary amount for survival, one would need to earn $21.26 per hour in the Bronx, $26.21 per hour in Staten Island, $29.67 in Queens, $35.87 in Brooklyn and $44.60 in Manhattan.

Since Central Park South is one of NYC's priciest neighborhoods, it requires the highest hourly pay. In order to realistically survive in that neighborhood one would either need to earn $85.07 per hour or work 389 hours per week.

As $85.07 is nine times to the current minimum wage and there are only 168 hours in a week, it's incomprehensible to try and afford to live in an expensive Manhattan neighborhood while earning New York's current minimum wage.

At least Cuomo approved a $15/hour minimum wage for fast food workers in July, but that's still less than half of what it needs to be for workers to reasonably afford life in the city that depends on them.
