Colin Atrophy Hagendorf has been a man about town, so to speak.
His new book, hatched from the meteoric success of his pizza blog Slice Harvester, is a memoir built around the man's two year quest to review a slice of of cheese from every pizzeria in Manhattan, or at least hundreds of them.
Along the way, there's a lot more than just mozzarella. Hagendorf underwent some serious changes involving substance abuse, anxiety, relationships and whole bunch more.
The idea came to him from the bottom of a bottle of wine. The blog took off almost immediately, garnering unimaginable amounts of mainstream media coverage, ultimately resulting in Slice Harvester: A Memoir in Pizza.
Weighing in at 209 pages, the thin crust memoir dropped August 11th and has been pulling even more attention than the Slice Harvester blog did initially.
NPR reports, "His voice is as confident as it is self-mocking; it's also absolutely captivating, especially as his descent into alcoholism becomes more harrowing than hilarious."
It's clear Hagendorf's story strikes a human chord while appealing to billions pizza lovers, punks, drinkers, partiers, foodies, and any combination thereof. That's what makes it a killer read.
It's been called a "... love letter to Manhattan-- one stained with spilled beer and cigarette burns...' and '... a rumination on innocence, and the loss thereof."
So, pick up a copy, grab a slice (or 50), and try not to get the pages greasy.
