Recently, the MTA began a pilot program for Staten Island S53 and S93 buses: bike racks.
There are many cities around the country and indeed the world sporting bike racks, which if you think about it, is a great idea.
The program will cost $42,000 for a total of 38 bike racks and installation. If you're a rider, it can open you up to traveling way beyond your usual endurance threshold, so go get your exploration on.
The new racks are first come first serve and have space to hold two bikes. It's important to note, the bus driver cannot help you get your bike on the rack, so don't be that guy/gal who steps on the bus and asks for help.

Since this is new for many New Yorkers, it's recommended that you keep an eye on your wheels while riding by standing towards the front of the bus, and make eye contact with the bus driver once you've removed the bike after exiting the bus.
