It's recently come to our attention that Travel + Leisure ranked New York City has the sixth meanest city in the world. We're not even in the top 5. And you know what? That's OK by us.
Some folks out there were surprised by the fact that the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg rank higher than us, at number one and three respectively.
But what's really confusing to us is how Atlantic City, New Jersey could weigh in at number two, followed by Marseille, France at number four, and Los Angeles at number five.
We're pretty sure that there are some great folks living in all these cities; and remember, these aren't our judgements, and they're not reflective of every citizen in those aforementioned cities, either.
So let's think about this for a second. It makes perfect sense that Moscow and St. Petersburg are way up there at the top.

Mother Russia, on a whole, is not very well-known for its hospitality, even towards its own people in many instances.
So Moscow and St. Petersburg, congratulations. If aliens ever do wind up attacking us, we're telling 'em that you're in charge.
Atlantic City, though? Number two? On the planet? Geez. Given some reflection, it kinda makes sense, though.
It's a well-known fact that A.C. is now bereft of jobs, the sentiment of "nobody really lives there anymore," is pretty common, as well as it still borders on the edge of being leftover with folks you'd most likely run into at a Gamblers Anonymous meeting.

OK sure, that sounds pretty harsh, but there's an element of truth to it. We could see why they'd be so mean.
Now France, well, French people are notoriously mean towards Americans. We get it, we should be able to speak your language in your country, but cut us some slack.
So, NYC's at number six. OK. We guess that means we're not as bad as our reputation is worldwide, though we did still come in at number one on a recent national list.
So maybe go punch a tourist and live up to the expectations? Kidding... we're kidding. But it's quite obvious: maybe New Yorkers really aren't all that bad after all?
