This Sunday, September 13th, an Italian tradition lands in the Bronx's Little Italy: Ferragosto 2015. 

The celebration goes back hundreds of years. Originating as a celebration the feast of the Assumption of Mary, Ferragosto has since evolved into a more public, secular holiday.

Today, think of it as a combination between Labor Day and Thanksgiving, commonly marking an occasion for Italians to take time off of work and celebrate the harvest season.

Originally, it was celebrated August 15th-- however, we do things a little differently over in the U.S. of A. In the Bronx, Ferragosto has only been a public party for approximately 15 years, and as we mentioned before, lands on Sunday, September 13th. 

This year's festivities will kick off with the Italian and American National Anthems, and are expected to draw between twenty and twenty-five thousand attendees for a variety of cultural happenings, including a ton of good music and delicious foods.
