Didn't Make It Out West? Well, Brooklyn's Very Own Version of 'Burning Man' Is Going Down This Weekend

If you really wanted to make it out to this year's Burning Man-- but are still in New York City instead of Black Rock City-- you're in luck.

You see, there's a whole lot of awesomeness going down at 39 Knickerbocker Avenue in Brooklyn, also known as X Marks the Lot; in fact, so much so, tomorrow they're hosting Junxion Presents: A Mistfit Burn, a Burning Man-like ceremony for those of us stuck back home here in NYC.

While much of the core team involved with The Lot have done the whole Burning Man thing before, this crowd is way more diverse than just Burners.

It's full of artists, actors, musicians, roaming travelers, and fantastic creative collaborators of all kinds. Everyone with good vibes is welcome.

The ringleader of X Marks the Lot, Mike Tummolo is a DJ (2Melo) and event curator ten years deep into the New York City party scene.

He got his start living at the creative loft space Wonderland Collective in Astoria, and has since been involved with the pretty legendary Danger! parties in Brooklyn-- not to mention having hand in many other clubs, raves, events, and instances of epic events around NYC, including Junxion.

The main intention of X Marks the Lot (or simply The Lot), and their roaming caravan of tricked-out and tripped-out party busses, is to transform how we experience spaces around this city.

It's a gorgeous phenomenon and the atmosphere at The Lot is distinct, to say the very least.

Right down the street from the Morgan Avenue stop on the L line, in what used to be part litter dump/part vacant sadness, is now a part art gallery, part sound system, part music venue, and overall pretty chill spot.

It's a wonderfully walled-in outdoor space, adorned with beautiful murals and a constantly evolving cypher of redesign, expansion, and building.

You can hang out and have something to eat from the various street vendors who pop up at any given time, or you bring your own eats and just hang out. There's usually something pretty cool happening every day.

Its potential for adaptation is only limited by the imagination of those involved-- and so far, it's been pretty boundless.

Now here's the deal: this Saturday, September 5th, The Lot crew is hosting a Burning Man-like ceremony to coincide with the actual burning of the man at Burning Man.

They've commissioned their own mini Burning Man sculpture to light up as his giant cousin in the desert is set aflame-- a synchronicity of celebration, an alignment of intention, and a homage to BM ideology that the The Lot is at least partially inspired by.

A Misfit Burn is technically the afterparty for Prospect Burn 2015, a gathering in Prospect Park earlier in the day focused around a yoga potluck. Both events should be incredible, but we anticipate the party really popping off at The Lot

There will be at least nine DJ's spinning between 8:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and more will be announced. There will also be fresh art installations, fire performers, numerology readings, and even fresh gear for sale by super heady fashionistas.

One thing is for sure, you never really know what you're getting into when you head over to The Lot. But you can always depend on it being dope AF.
