It recently came to the attention of dumpling aficionados across the city that Chinatown's Prosperity Dumpling has been up to some grimy practices. 

When the below photo surfaced of an outdoor dumpling assembly line in the really gross rat infested alley behind the restaurant, lots of New Yorkers flipped out.

After the Department of health "treated the photo as a complaint," Prosperity Dumpling  "temporarily closed." We can't say we're super surprised. 

The best part is that they weren't even closed over the rat dumpling assembly line-- it was their cockroach infestation that sealed the deal.

Almost anybody who has lived in Chinatown, spent a lot of time in Chinatown, or worked in Chinatown knows Chinatown is objectively dirty AF, and this sort of stuff goes on all over the 'hood.

There's no two ways about it, but that's part of its charm. 

The irony is that the biggest spenders in the neighborhood (and those who are most surprised by this) are not those living there-- it's people who make the trek to feel like they're getting an authentic Chinese (well, Chinese-American) experience. 

Let us break it to you softly.

Chinatown is the realest, rawest of 'hoods where you could buy flip-flops and black tar heroin in the same street-side stall.

 It's the land that the 'New York Clean Air Act' forgot. The wafting aroma of fish guts and cigarette butts is literally everywhere. 

And for some reason, people squat at random places in the middle of the sidewalk and just chill there for a while. 

Chinatown is kind of fun as hell, kind of frustrating as hell-- and this Prosperity Dumpling debacle is... right up Chinatown's alley. 

Here's to hoping they can clean up their act. Along with several other establishments in the neighborhood.
