9 Reasons New Yorkers Wish They Lived in the 'Friends' Version of NYC. Every. Damn. Day.

So no one told you life was going to be this way.

Your job's a joke, you're broke, and your love life's D.O.A.

It's like you're always stuck in second gear -- it honestly hasn't been our your day, your week, your month, or even your year.

Ironically, none of these issues were ever the problem for the Friends crew.

In fact, given we're embarrassed to admit how many times that series has been streamed on repeat on our Netflix, we can go ahead and just clear that up: every year is your year when you live in the Friends version of New York City. It indisputably rocks.

You want an awesome rent-controlled apartment in Greenwich Village? No problem. A solid group of very attractive peeps who you occasionally sex it up with and/or marry? Check! A best friend who also just happens to be soap opera star? Done.

When Frank Sinatra was singing about this fair city, he must have just visited Monica Gellar's apartment right after she made that insanely good holiday candy from scratch.

Because anything is possible in when you live in the Friends version of NYC.

Sure, we're living in the past, but such is required when living in such a #TBT-centric world. We're nostalgic, sure, but we're not getting crazy. Yet. (We're saving that for The Dopest #TBT EverP.S., come through that night. Your free RSVP is right here.)

Below are 9 reasons why New Yorkers wish they lived in the Friends version of NYC, every single day of our meager, non-rent controlled lives.

1. They have reserved seats at a coffee shop

We think it's great when we finally get to the point when our local barista remembers our order. It makes us feel like we've made it.

Well, imagine that except every time you walked into your favorite coffee shop, a giant couch, chairs, and table just awaited you. No one would dare take them, no, they are yours forever and always.

Even when those bullies tried to take them in, "The One With The Bullies," it didn't last. Because in the Friends NYC, you get what you want. Always.

2. Seriously though, those apartments

image

God we want them so much. All of them. They are all fantastic. Monica and Rachel's is the obvious front runner... that window, that balcony. Those rooms! The apartment is insane. And since it belonged to Monica's grandma, and they illegally sublet it, it's rent controlled.

The holy grail of New York. Chandler and Joey's apartment? Also pretty huge. And somehow they can afford it. Sure, Chandler is in finance, but he also subsidizes Joey's entire life (an amount only recently determined).

And don't even get us started how formerly homeless Phoebe can afford her killer one-bedroom spread (that apparently borders CENTRAL PARK) on a masseuse's salary.

3. They hook up without online dating

image

Aside from the fact they all hook up with each other, these people can just go out there and meet a guy or gal at random, and start dating them.

For Pete's sake, Rachel met a dude at a magazine stand one time. A MAGAZINE STAND. We rest our case.

4. They all live within actual feet of each other (minus Phoebe)

image

Life is one big game of "Paper, Rock, Scissors" when your friends live in different NYC boroughs.

The conversations that consist of things like, "Whose neighborhood are we going to tonight? Well, we went to yours last Friday. You guys want to come my way? Fine. Don't," never existed for the Friends crew.

You know why? Because 4 of them live on the same hallway, the other across the street, and Phoebe, well, she clearly is out numbered and always has to go to them. She doesn't even complain about it.

5. They rarely seem to be ever really be working

This is New York City. We work our faces off. It's actually all we do.

In Friends? Not so much.

They're probably at the coffee shop again, not actually at work. When they are actually in the office, they keep themselves busy by writing fake, sexy reviews of their hot assistants, or they flip out about missing sandwiches in the lunch room (low point, Ross.)

Oh, and Chandler, one of the only characters who actually seemed to be in a money-making field (finance), once admitted to his boss when papers started piling on his desk, he just tossed them in the shredder. Pretty sure he got promoted after that.

6. They have access to not one, but two, cars. And one is a cab.

The other is a PORSCHE!

Plus, they can afford to keep them in the city, and always seem to find street parking.

And they never get parking tickets. Or a boot.

WE WANT TO BE YOU.

7. They're rarely hungover

image

This could because somehow these supposedly 20-somethings living in New York effin' City never drink. This is perhaps the most unrealistic portrayal of this entire series.

To hell with Central Perk, they'd be at Off The Wagon on the regular, waking up in their own vomit and regret. Probably next to Joey.

8. They always snag their dream jobs

Rachel went from a waitress to an executive at Ralph Lauren in a record-breaking two years. Joey, who somehow blows every audition, lands a leading role in Days of Our Lives.

Phoebe sexually molests a client, and, despite getting fired for it, snags a job at a leading spa.

Monica is the head chef of what looks to be the Gramercy Tavern of their fake New York. Chandler quits finance, and after one internship, becomes a copywriter at a major ad agency.

And Ross Gellar -- who was once forced to take a sabbatical due to his erratic behavior at work -- gets flipping tenure! There it is.

9. Brad Pitt attends their Thanksgiving dinners

For the record, he's right; there is a "Rachel-land." It's a borough in the Friends New York.

And we want to live in it.
