Summertime Sadness? 9 Reasons You're Really Excited for Fall in NYC (But Won't Admit Just Yet)

There are plenty of great things about fall. We're talking about gorgeous leaves and that breath of fresh, cold air that feels like a gulp of water.

Summer was great. You probably went to the beach, attended a lot of fun barbecues, and sweated all day every day. Everyone loves summer, and for good reason.

There are plenty of summertime joys, summertime loves, and the all-out summertime bliss of going swimming in New York City's pools and water-sliding down our city's streets.

But maybe, just maybe, you're a tad bit excited about fall. You're a little bit stoked about the Halloween and Thanksgiving hype, pea coats, crunch leaves and pumpkin lattes, muffins, and pie.

Rest assured, your secret is safe with us. We'll never tell anyone that you're actually slightly excited for fall, for the following top-secret reasons.

1. Wearing coats

rocknroll_rose Throwback to that one time I was drunk off a bottle and a half of Sauvignon Blanc with my beloved Kookie at Gus pad, Good Times! Face it, you have emotional feelings toward your coat. How could you not? Your coat has kept you warm countless times. You'd be lying if you said you haven't used it as a pillow.

Admit it, you've been gazing longingly at that pretty peacoat you bought last year, and you died a little bit inside every time you saw it folded in your closet. You're secretly stoked to sport that baby again.

Plus, that coat has huge pockets. You'll now be able to carry things way easier. One of the major bummers of summer is having no giant pockets. Fall coats have big, big pockets. What will you carry in your big pockets?

Only you can answer that question.

2. Not sweating

You may be perfectly happy to admit you don't want to sweat, but you're probably extremely reluctant to admit you're looking forward to what comes with not sweating since what accompanies not sweating is, of course, the end of summer.

Sometimes the crisp, cool air that starts swirling through your lungs during fall can be extremely refreshing. Instead of having all your energy sucked from you the moment you walk outside, you'll feel rejuvenated.

Instead of being completely dehydrated by the time you arrive at your subway stop, you'll be cool. You'll be chilling. You'll probably never tell your friends how excited you are for the non-draining fall air, but it's cool. We get it.

3. Gorgeous foliage

There are certain enchanting locales right in our very metropolis that are bursting with plant life. And when you're in these nature oases, it hardly feels like you're in New York City.

We've got Governor's Island, The New York Botanical Garden, the Cloisters, Randall's Island and plenty more.

Once these park's leave start morphing into their autumn reds, yellows, and oranges, it'll be so beautiful we'll hardly be able to stand it.

4. Not feeling guilty about staying inside

You know that moment when you're shivering, frozen from your toes up to your eyebrows, and you wrap a warm, fluffy blanket around yourself?

Yeah, we know. That moment is heavenly. You never get to have that moment in summer because you're always too sweaty for big, comfy blankets.

In fall, you're exempt from guilt about staying hauled up in your apartment all day. So let your Netflix marathon commence. And Football Sundays.... oh how we missed thee.

5. Lower electricity bill

Fall and spring are probably the nirvana of seasons when it comes to bills, because in fall and spring you pay neither a skyrocketing air conditioning bill, nor a skyrocketing gas bill to fund your radiator.

So we can all rejoice about the fact that you won't automatically cry or down six beers when you get your electricity bill at the end of the month. Hollllaaaaa!

6. Stepping on the crunchy leaf

Whether you find this leaf in Central Park, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Washington Square Park or just the tree on your block, we can all convene in our delight about stepping on this leaf.

This has got to be the most underrated joy that happens in fall. We all need to talk about this much, much more.

Raise your hand if you've ever gone way out of your way to step on the crunchy leaf, because we know we have.

7. Pumpkin spice lattes

The hype for these is so real. You were probably daydreaming about the day in November you could slurp a Pumpkin Spice Latte while you were in the ocean in July.

Don't worry, you're not alone. We've all been counting down until the day we could pour one of these delicious drinks down our throats too.

Yes, the pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks are where it's at. However, when it comes to downing this delectable treat this fall, don't limit yourself.

Try one of NYC's amazing and varied coffee shops that aren't named Starbucks, why don't you?

8. Cuddling

There's something to be said for hot, sweaty summer sex.

However, once the dirty deed has ended, you sort of want the other person in your bed to get as far away from you as possible. Summer heat makes having anyone else in your bed extremely unpleasant.

The temperature reprieve that accompanies fall makes cuddling much, much more pleasant. For that we are thankful.

9. Eating

Whether you'd admit it or not, you're worried about your bathing suit bod during the summer.

Every cookie, every piece of pie and Magnolia's banana cream pudding you eat during summer gets calibrated in your ability to rock that bathing suit on the beach.

Not in fall, though. Fall is all about eating. Did anyone say Thanksgiving?
