We recently came in hot with the news that five medical marijuana dispensaries would be opening in New York by the end of 2015.

As stoked as we were about that information, it was still kind of a bummer. 

One, because we were a bit late to the game as the 22nd state to legalize medical marijuana. And two, because of the obvious reason that in order to obtain medical marijuana, one must also possess some sort of medical ailment.

But according to a recent map published by Mic, our dream of perfectly healthy New Yorkers toking up legally may soon become a reality.

We couldn't be happier. Like, we're really, really happy. 

Recreational marijuana is already legal in Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and the District of Columbia, and activists in 11 states whose rates of marijuana use soar above the national norm have already decriminalized marijuana possession to some extent.

These states are Massachusetts, Nevada, California, Vermont, Minnesota, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Maine, Delaware, and of course, us (New York).

Six of these states either have bills that would create legal markets for recreational marijuana either waiting in legislature or set to be voted on by the population.

In New York, having 25 grams of weed or less is already decriminalized, and only punishable of up to a $100 fine.

Still, the Marijuana Policy Project reported that in 2011, there were more arrests for marijuana-related offenses than all violent crimes put together. 

So let's get weed legalized already, and end all the tippy-toeing nonsense already.
