Is it news to you that LaGuardia Airport sucks?

Yeah, we didn't think so. That's why earlier this summer LaGuardia was greenlit for a $4 billion remodel. Since, you know, it's the worst airport in the country and all that. 

LaGuardia was designed in 1964 for 8 million fliers per year. As LaGuardia currently flies 13 million people per year, it's a bit hyperbolic to say it's too small, too crowded, and too run down. But let's be real, all that's not new info. 

Here's what is: LaGuardia also has the most flight delays in this country.

Yeah, we didn't know the situation had gotten that bad either. Despite Governor Cuomo's assertion that the state of LaGuardia is "un-New York."

Still, New Yorkers are used to being the best at stuff. We are very not prepared to be the worst at anything, let alone airport delays.

The New York Post reports that only 68% of total incoming and outgoing flights at LaGuardia reported zero delays through June 30th. Fewer than 66% of flights arrived on time, and only 70% took off on time.

And it's not even like we can console ourselves by claiming improvement. 

According to the Federal Bureau of Transportation, performance for arrivals and departures has dropped 3% since last year.

LaGuardia's always hung out near the bottom of the list of America's airports. But never-- well, before now-- has it hit dead last.

So yeah... guess we really need that renovation, eh?
