Just last week, when New York City based drummer Jeff Mann rolled into a Guitar Center in New Jersey, he didn't think he'd walk out the star of a viral video. 

But Jeff and his brother, just there on a routine trip to pick up some gear, noticed the drum department was empty. Vacant. Quiet. When his brother suggested Jeff jump on an electronic drum kit and improv "something like a Kanye beat," he pulled out his phone to shoot a video. 

So tasked with emulating something "Kanye-y", Jeff was up for the challenge. Using note sequencing electronic cymbals, he created a very chill hip hop melody over a killer beat. The magic of this is that Jeff is playing all that you hear only on drums.

Things got interesting when Mann's brother posted the video to Reddit, and it rose overnight to the top 20 with around 50,000 YouTube views by the following afternoon. 

Next, Mann's band Consider the Source shared the YouTube link, not the Reddit post, with their 28 K fans on Facebook. The Reddit post kept rising on its own, settling at #13 for a day, and the Youtube video floats around 90,000 YouTube views as of published time. 

So is it a Kanye beat? No. But it's dope. We spoke to Jeff who confirmed that it was indeed improvised and just something he "sat down and came up with." Well hey, nice job, Jeff!
