There's never been a building to stretch taller than 1,000 feet in any of the boroughs outside Manhattan. But that may soon all change.
Hey Brooklyn, have you been guffawing about all the trend of luxury high rises in Manhattan? We hope you're not too tired of them.
Because soon Brooklyn may see the construction of a similar high rise on its shores. And it's set to grow nearly as tall as the Empire State Building.
Crain's reported that Developer Michael Stern-- who built one of the tallest luxury condo towers on Manhattan's Billionaires' Row-- just struck a $90 million deal with real estate developer Joe Chetrit for the former Dime Savings Bank of New York, located at 9 Dekalb Aveue, right near Junior's and their amazing cheesecake.
And along with the 150-year-old historic bank comes 300,000-square-feet of development rights. Which Stern could use to build a tower next to the bank at 340 Flatbush Avenue Extension. With existing air rights, Stern and Chetrit could build a nearly 600,000-square-foot-tower.
Crain's projects the new tower will measure in at 1,250 feet tall, which is 204 feet shorter than the 1,454-foot-tall Empire State Building.
So, to those Brooklynites who are dissatisfied with their apartments, start saving your millions to rent in this new tower, rendered below.

We're only sort of kidding, though. Because although this new apartment building will have a very impressive view, the question remains:
Is this just the tip of what's to come for New York City's outer borough skyline?
