Hey New York City, if you think you can masquerade $1,900 per month studios and $2,000 per month one-bedrooms "affordable," you need to think again.

"Who the hell can afford that in Lefferts Gardens?" asked Phil DePaolo, an affordable housing activist. "It's not really affordable housing. It's subsidized market rate housing."

In Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, 46 studios and one-bedrooms that rent for this amount will be available for rent soon, and the NYC Housing Connect is pretending they're "affordable."

In a memo released on Tuesday, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development said they're now taking applications to fill the 46 newly-built apartments.

"When the city goes into low-income communities the Trojan horse is always affordable housing," DePaolo said. "But when the smoke clears how many of these units are actually affordable to members of the community? Usually it's not a lot."

The advertisement listed the units at 382 Lefferts Avenue in Brooklyn.
