If you love leafy green Dazed and Confused goodness, it's time to rejoice.

On Friday, the New York State Health Department decreed five organizations will be allowed to grow and sell marijuana for medical use in New York State, according to The New York Times.

Yes. Medical marijuana. In New York. 

Etain is one of the companies deemed allowed to sell marijuana in New York with a mission to "improve a quality of life for eligible patients through legal access to medical cannabis." 

They are also committed to the "research, discovery and advocacy in the pursuit of safe and healthy solutions for diseases, conditions and the management of pain and discomfort." 

Other companies now allowed to sell medical herb include Bloomfield Industries, which plans to grow cannabis in Queens and dispense it in Manhattan, Nassau County, and two upstate counties.

PharmaCann will sell in the Bronx, and Empire State Health Solutions will have dispensaries in Albany County and Queens, according toThe Times.

   The fifth company, Columbia Care, plans to create hundreds of jobs at a 204,000-square-foot agricultural operation at the Eastman Business Park in Rochester, former home to Kodak.

Each of these five organizations is allowed to have up to four statewide dispensaries. They're all required to do business within six months, which means medical marijuana could be for sale in New York by the end of 2015.

Governor Cuomo signed The Compassionate Care Act back in July of 2014. This authorized the legality of these marijuana outlets, a dope decision confirmed after the New York Health Department conducted a "rigorous and comprehensive" review of the possible dispensaries.

Cuomo declined to comment, but health commissioner Dr. Howard A. Zucker said the decision is a "major milestone" in New York's medical marijuana program.

And for the companies now allowed to sell Mary Jane? Well, it's not a free-for-all. The state decreed the plants must be grown in-state while simultaneously building their retail operations. 

  "We think it's a humongous opportunity," Hillary Peckham, who runs Etain with her sister and mother, told The New York Times. They plan to grow cannabis in the Adirondack hamlet of Chestertown.

As for the cannabis' financial impact? The sale of medical marijuana will be subject to a 7% tax. In addition, Nicholas Vita, chief executive of Columbia Care, said Columbia Care would invest "double-digit millions" in growing operations and dispensaries around the state.

Vita is confident his business will be running by January 1st 2016. 

Columbia Care owns a dispensary on East 14th Street in Manhattan with Columbia Care spokesman Peter Kerr describing it as "pleasant, supportive and airy."

We're were one of the largest states to legalize cannabis for medical purposes, though we're sort of late to the game. We're the 22nd state to pass this type of legislation, 21 years behind California who legalized the drug for medical purposes in 1996.

Still, the success of the Compassionate Care Act is a huge victory, as is the five companies who were approved to dispense marijuana legally on Friday. These five companies were competing in a pool of 43 companies who hoped to be approved to sell the drug.

"Those who did not make the cut, stick around," State Senator Diana Savino stated. "New York is a very big state."

As for us? Well, we're completely stoked. Obviously. 

We're definitely way closer to the wonderful things that'd happen if weed were legalized in NYC than we thought we'd be.
