If you're a doctor visiting Columbia University Medical Center, a parent of a Washington Heights resident, or a tourist who wants to stay on the upper tip of Manhattan, you'll soon have a place close by to stay.
Two hotels are being built in Washington Heights, and they're the first ever hotels being built in the neighborhood. According to The Real Deal, they're expected to open in August.
The first hotel will be called Hotel Cliff, and it'll make its home at 505 West 181st Street. The building's owner Manny Singha, initially filed plans eight years ago and after almost a decade wait, the 52-room hotel will finally be opening its doors in August.
Khristos Karatathis designed the building, and it will feature a glass façade with alternating colored panels, which we think sounds very pretty.
The next Washington Heights hotel will make its home at 515 West 168th Street, and it'll be called the Edge Hotel. Building that hotel was a $22 million project, according to The Real Deal. It's in the final stages of obtaining its certificate of occupancy.
The Edge Hotel is 11 stories tall, and once completed will contain 54 rooms for hotel guests and 15,000 square feet of medical offices. Moinian Group executive Oskar Brecher projects the Edge Hotel will open by the end of the summer.
No more pesky subway rides late at night to get back to your hotel, right?
So we guess it's true when they say when it rains it pours. Six months ago, there were no hotels in Washington Heights and two months from now, there will be two.
