We’re always looking for a reason to celebrate, and this one provides the perfect excuse to carb up. Every year, the first Saturday in August is National Mustard Day, which just so happens to be this Saturday.
Yep, you read correctly: an entire day devoted to that yellow stripe on your hotdog.
But it’s so much more than that. In fact, there’s an entire mustard museum in Wisconsin that serves as headquarters for this feat. Mild, sweet, spicy, or gritty…there’s a mustard for everybody.
Let's be real: if anyone knows what's up in the realm of mustard, it's Germany.
Enter an authentic Biergarten and immediately the scent of soft, crusty, doughy hand rolled pretzels wafts into your nose. It immobilizes you. You can't do anything. But eat.
So, as an ode to mustard, we're dishin' out some special recognition to 8 pretzel hot spots where you can pay homage to this timeless, yet often under appreciated condiment.

Two words: House Band. This bona fide joint puts on a series of shindigs throughout the year, complete with the musical stylings of their house band. Oh, and did we mention the pretzel tree?
That’s right, you can order a tree of 5 pretzels. Dip those bad boys in mustard over and over again. Challenge accepted.
2. The Standard Biergarten (848 Washington Street)
Award to these cats for getting seen on the scene.
Break bread with celebrities. Literally.
Well, at least you’ll have your best chance at this Biergarten under the High Line at The Standard Hotel. Grab a pretzel, find a seat, and prepare to dip and dodge, as there’s usually ping pong balls flying in the air near the communal tables that this establishment houses.
3. Lederhosen (39 Grove Street)
Award for best photo op. With the Bavarian Alps gracing the heavily painted walls, it provides the perfect backdrop for some awesome scenic photos.
All you need is to sport your own pair of lederhosen to bring it full circle.
This genuine Biergarten may also snag a bonus award for most affordable, with pretzels at $3 a pop. Can’t beat that.
Tip: order the party platter that boasts a varietal of 5 different sausages and bathe the hell out of them with the house mustard.
4. Reichenbach Hall (5 West 37 Street)
Award for most ginormous pretzel goes to this joint.
Bigger is definitely better in this case. With a pretzel that big, let’s hope it comes with a vat of mustard.
The pretzel isn’t the only thing oversized here.
The space itself is huge for city standards, not to mention their massive meat. We’re talking about the Weiner Schnitzel, of course. Strapping schnitzel is definitely something to write home about.

6. Pier A Harborhouse (22 Battery Place)
Award for best view. Ok, so this may not technically be a Biergarten, but their pretzels say otherwise.
You can’t help but be happy at this downtown Manhattan spot; even the pretzels appear to be smiling. Sit in the Long Hall, or spill out onto the pier and take a load off on the picnic tables perched right on the Hudson River.
Either way, the scene is impressive as is the fact that the Statue of Liberty is watching as we scrape that mustard dish clean with the last bit of the buttery, piping hot pretzel.
7. Houston Hall (222 West Houston Street)
Award for most versatile setting. Fun fact: this industrial warehouse space can be transformed into a rustic wedding venue.
You know what'll never get out of a wedding dress? Mustard! See the connection?
Yeah, back to what’s really important here: is the giant pretzel and its sauce minions. They boast a spicy honey mustard hybrid and, and a dope warm cheddar ale dip.
Just think, you have 8,000 square feet to sop up the beer with this delicious snack.
8. Loreley (7 Rivington Street)
Award for best party on a plate. A sausage party, that is.
This Biergarten has a treasure trove of meat in the form of their sausage party plate. It comes with an abundance of different sausages as well as a variety of mustards.
Mind. Blown.
The possibilities for mixing and matching are endless. Sold. It’s a solid pick for day drinkin’ and straight dippin’ with all that meat.
