Governor's Island is about to become a lot more relaxing.

On July 21st, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted yes to developing three buildings at Governors Island, along with the surrounding land.

What will these buildings contain?

Eventually, a 78,000-square-foot QC Terme European hydrotherapy day spa, plus three outdoor pools. 

They'll be developed from former military buildings, and developers Quadratec and The Colonmade Group plan to make minimal changes to the actual buildings.

For $60 or $70 dollars a day, patrons will be able to access spa facilities' saunas and pools for a day. Unfortunately, massages will cost extra.

The day spa will also feature two on-site restaurants, one light bites café and another more formal restaurant, and outdoor grounds and pools for relaxing and swimming.

"We want this to be an affordable place, with the best views of the city-- a quiet place of accessibility for everyone," said Stefano Farusa, one of the spa's owners which already has several locations in Italy.

Sounds pretty rejuvenating to us. It's projected to open in the summer of 2017, and we can't wait.
