It’s summer, so why not play outside? When we were eight-years-old, we didn’t have a choice.
Now that we're grown, motivation is sometimes a hard thing to muster in this heat. It's the summer though. Be social and sporty, all while making new friends.
While we can’t make any promises that you won’t be the last pick on the team, on account of not being in elementary school anymore, there's still a chance you get some awesome t-shirts instead of heavily used jerseys or mesh pinnies.
Not convinced yet? You get to come up with your own team names. Like, amazing adult team names.
And there's generally drinking. Did we mention drinking?

Alas, here are the 8 best ways to get outside this summer and play in New York City.
1. Soccer (NYC Social - various NYC locations)
Now that you’re pumped from the recent World Cup games (USA! USA!), get inspired.
Also, there’s really no good excuse not to play outdoor soccer, since they play pretty much all over the city, almost every day of the week.
Starts mid-July!
2. Flag football (NYC Social - various locations)
Casual competition, medal potential, and guaranteed post-game drinks?
Sounds like the perfect combination to us.
Make sure to read the rulebook: No diving allowed.
3. Basketball (NYC Social - Chelsea)
Tuesdays just got a whole lot better.
Brush up on your dribbling skills and hit the courts for some hoops. Just because the Knicks can't play good basketball doesn't mean you can't, right?
Starts August 4th.
4. Beach Volleyball (Zog Sports - Upper West Side)
Bump, set, and spike in Riverside Park while you pretend the river breeze is keeping you cool, as you work up a mean sweat with some city-style beach volleyball.
Just to keep the whole beach scene illusion intact, you should probably order a frozen drink afterwards.

Not just because of the alliteration, or because alliteration has a nice ring to it in general, but also because you’ll feel better about yourself if you do something active towards the end of your weekend.

6. Kickball (Play Big Apple - Brooklyn)

Because where else can you kick the crap out of some balls?
Channel your nine-year-old inner child and relive your glory days from the school playground.
Then channel your inner, legal-aged adult year-old and join in their flip cup games afterwards. It's like a BOGO, but you know, with booze and kickballs.
Tip: Tuesday is the only day with an outdoor league.
Playground opens July 13th.
7. Bocce

Channel your inner Italian roots and throw some balls. This relaxed game just screams summer.
Participate in the Bocce City Championships and become the best team in the city.
Now, could have thrown your balls around with Major League Bocce or Play Big Apple, but Play Big Apple's registration is up.
Which means you need to step up your game to join in the ball slangin' with Major League that starts July 15th, because registration closes the 10th.
8. Cornhole (Play Big Apple - Union Square)

Because, cornhole. No explanation needed.
Just good, clean, drinking-accessible fun. If cornhole is wrong, then who wants to be right? Plus, cornhole always seems to provide endless opportunities for inappropriately funny team names.
