If you thought living in New York City couldn't get any weirder... you were dead wrong.

It can, and it has.

Everyone knows driving in NYC is like the Wild Wild West. It's dangerous, brutal, and ruthless. No one is interested in letting anyone else merge. No one is interested in the fact that anyone else has feelings.

And to make matters more insane, now cop cars don't even look like cop cars! NYC taxis have a reputation as the city's wildest drivers, but now a yellow taxi might actually be a police officer in disguise.

According to Only Happens In NYC, though, there are ways you can tell if a seemingly benign yellow taxi is really a scheming cop getting ready to write you a ticket.

A yellow taxi might be a disguised cop if:

  • The license plate begins with T800
  • The medallion number begins with 6Y or 2W
  • There's no plastic separation barrier between the front and back seats
  • They don't stop for passengers (this one might require some lurking)
  • Two people are riding in the front seat instead of one
  • Check out the video below to watch a real cop arrest someone from a yellow taxi cab.
