Back in December, President Obama eased the travel ban between the United States and Cuba, among other plans to mend U.S. ties with Cuba.

As a result, on July 3rd, JetBlue officially began direct flights to Cuba out of JFK Airport, according to NBC. This move rendered JetBlue the first airline to make that trip after the travel restrictions were eased.

The members of this flight out of JFK became a part of history when the plane took off. It makes sense to us that this huge piece of U.S. news would occur in NYC, since you know, we rock.

It's common knowledge that New York City is a diverse city, with residents hailing from hundreds of countries worldwide. Which is why this particular flight meant so much to one Brooklyn resident who was born in Cuba.

"We'll talk about this for years," the passenger told NBC. He also told NBC he "didn't have words to explain how he feels."

This isn't the only good news to surface recently about JFK, either. Now that we've drastically improved our international relations, we can also chill on JFK's roof.
