New York University and Greenwich Village's inhabitants have been warring for years over certain pieces of West Village property.
Specifically, Village residents were worried NYU's campus would encroach on their parks. And now, it appears a light has ignited at the end of that bureaucratic struggle.
Yesterday, the state of New York's highest court of appeals decided in a unanimous ruling in favor of NYU's $6 billion expansion plan, according to the New York Daily News.
Those in favor of protecting what were ruled as "temporary parks" by the court, included activists Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, and Padma Lakshmi, according to the New York Post.
The university plans to redevelop 1.9 million square feet and build four new buildings which will hold classrooms, dorms and offices.
University spokesman John Beckman told the Daily News that NYU was "pleased and gratified" by the decision, and said that the project "not only keeps NYU academically competitive and helps fulfill our educational mission, it also benefits New York, as does today's decision."

Mercer Playground and LaGuardia Park will be inaccessible during construction, in addition to LaGuardia Corner Gardens and the Mercer-Houston Dog Run, which will also be affected by NYU's expansion.
