Wild 'n Out: Here Are 7 Badass Things You Should Do This Summer in NYC

You know that feeling when everything starts to feel just a lil' monotonous?

Yeah, we live in a giant, sprawling metropolis with a ton to do every night, but do you ever find yourself visiting the same bars and restaurants over and over again, having the same conversations?

What's that, we hear?

So you want to do something a lil' wild this summer? Wanna make yourself feel alive again?

You've come to the right place. We have 7 spontaneous ideas about how you can feel completely badass in New York City this summer. But be smart. Don’t get hurt. And don't get arrested.

Now that we said what needed to be said, how many of these will you cross off the list?

1. Sneak into a hotel pool

We've never done this (honestly, we haven't), but how hard can it be?

All you have to do is walk into a hotel with all the confidence of a hotel guest, right?

Hijack a ride on the elevator like you paid to ride it, get off at the level that reads “Pool,” and do your thing.

If you go to a swanky hotel, like The Dream Downtown for instance, it seems to stand to reason that your disguise will be much more complete if you purchase drinks at the bar.

2. Get a new tattoo

Nothing screams badass like new ink.

(We feel obligated to explain that you should not get a permanent tattoo etched into your skin unless you really, really dig that tattoo, and not just because you want to feel badass. But still.)

The thrill of getting a new tattoo, really, really committing to some idea or picture or quote is delicious.

The permanence of it seems directly at odds with death. It’s awesome, and it’s even more awesome when you leap off this precipice with someone you love and get tattoos together.

You’ll feel so when you brave the pain and so exhilarated when you catch your new ink in the mirror. So, go to St. Mark’s Place and make it happen this summer.

3. Buy something really expensive

The thrill of dropping more money than you can really afford to drop really gets your heart racing.

Ever bought a pair of sunglasses that was several hundred dollars more than its drug store counterpart just because it had the name of an expensive brand on the top right corner of one of the frames?

We all have. You will love and care for these sunglasses much more than you would the $15 pair that look exactly the same and perform the same function.

We all want to do it; to buy that one luxurious thing we can’t afford to buy.

Consider this your permission. Buy yourself a bicycle, a Mophie phone case (100% worth the $80), or a bottle of Belvedere instead of Smirnoff.

You’ll find a way to come up with the rent. You always do.

 4. Get drunk at a public event

So, our city is super nice and cares about our happiness, and thus funds lots of free concerts and performances and outdoor movies for us throughout the course of the summer.

There’s no better way to thank the city for its generosity than by breaking their rules and sneaking alcohol into their event.

If you bring an opaque water bottle to a free outdoor concert or free outdoor play or free outdoor movie and fill it with wine, or whiskey, or whatever else you’re into, and sip on it steadily, you’ll definitely be feeling good once it’s over.

And you’ll definitely feel like a badass vagabond.

 5. Climb something

Don’t fall. Let me say this again. Don’t fall.

(We hereby disclaim legal responsibility if you fall and hurt yourself. Don’t do this when you’re drunk, and don’t fall.)

[anad]

That being said, if you have a friend with a roof deck and you can (safely) ascend a little higher and take in a better view of the city, by all means do this.

You’ll be able to swoon at the skyline and feel like a badass all at once.

6. Do whatever you’re most afraid of

The best way to find out what you really, really want out of life is to confront your fear.

What are you most afraid of doing? Once you’ve identified what the thing you’re most afraid of doing is, you have to go do it. Well, within reason.

[anad2]

You might be most scared of jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, for instance, but you not going to do that.

So, figure out what you’re most afraid of doing that's within reason, and do it.

7. Get drunk on the Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry is a free, gorgeous, 25-minute boat ride.

Why wouldn't you sneakily get drunk on it? (Not that we've done that before, either.)
