Did you know New York City issued 9.4 million parking tickets in 2014, pulling in $546 million in fines? Well-played NYC, well-played.
Did you also know there's a new app called WinIt that will help you get those pesky parking tickets dismissed?
Here's how it works. Let's say you're fined $75 for parking just one foot too close to a fire hydrant.
Christian Fama and Ari Lemmel, the brains behind WinIt, will dispute the ticket on your behalf. If they win, you pay them half of what the ticket was for. So, in this case, $37.50. If they lose, you just pay New York City $75. How's it work?
The customer just opens the app, takes a picture of the ticket, and that's pretty much it. We'll review it internally and sometimes ask for additional evidence if we need it," Lemmel stated.
Sounds easy enough, right? And paying half of your parking ticket for lawyers who went to battle for you is definitely better than paying the full amount to New York City, right?
"We want to take away the entire frustration that is usually associated with a parking ticket," Lemmel said.
Since March, the WinIt team has been victorious in nearly half of their legal parking ticket battles, securing wins by pointing out technicalities and typos that most frustrated New Yorkers overlook in their hastiness to be done with the ticket.
