At this Upper West Side co-op, the question "What type of dog is it?" is one whose answer has severe consequences.

The harsh reality is that 170 West End Avenue does not just welcome any dog to live in their building-- only those who don't appear on a "banned breeds" list.

The exact list is unavailable to the public, but it supposedly contains 27 breeds that range "from large dogs like St. Bernard's and German Shepherds to medium-sized pooches like pit bulls and basset hounds-- to even toy breeds like a shih tzu."

According to DNA Info, in order to assure a banned breed doesn't live in the building, this co-op board is now demanding owners of an "unknown dog breed" to take a DNA test.

If that DNA test reveals a dog is made up of more than 50% of a breed that is on the banned list, the apartment owner is eligible to be kicked out of the building.

As expected, dog owners are not pleased with this discriminatory implementation, though many are afraid to express their discontent in fear of the board's vengeance.

One anonymously stated, "It's like dog racism essentially."

Sounds like the perfect storm is brewing for a dog discrimination lawsuit. Only in New York City, right?
