What a Cast of Characters: 11 Types of People You Go Out Drinking with in NYC

Going out in New York City is obviously always amazing. But, there are always several characters who will inevitably reveal themselves during a night out on the town.

We'd all  like to think that we're the socialite who gets along with everyone. But, let's be honest, we know who we really are.

Here are the 11 types of people that you go out drinking with in NYC. Which one are you?

1. The Socialite

200-1

This outgoing partier expands the social circle by striking up a convo about anything with anyone. When there are newbies to the group, the socialite will do what she can to make everyone feel loved and make sure everyone is having a good time.

Her outgoing personality is often mistaken as flirting which is a real bummer when the person that she was trying to make feel comfortable now thinks she’s into him. Awkward…

This person is also all about playing games. Fun and social activities?? Count this chick in.

“I LOVE GAMES!”

Yeah, we know...

2. The Dancer

200

This person gets overly excited after EVERY song that comes on. There’s no way that every song can be “your jam.” But, it never fails and this person seems to get more and more excited after each song that comes on, and they can’t help but dance.

Even if no one else is dancing, it won’t stop them! They just break it down whenever, wherever as if no one is watching.

And I know they say, “Dance like no one is watching,” but as Amy Schumer says: “I think you should always dance like at least one person is watching.”

3. The Lightweight

200

This poor soul can't handle a tequila shot and is seemingly the only one who can't remember that she has this deficiency. She gets caught up in all of the fun and forgets that she can’t keep up.

The lightweight also seems to think that everyone is just as drunk and starts yelling things with no filter on the subway.

“Do you think you’re going to hook up with Ryan again tonight??”

Oh lord. These are conversations that we should keep at a whisper.

But, not for the lightweight! She assumes everyone is on the same page and wants to hear what she has to say.

By the end of the night she'll end up hugging the toilet and saying: “I’m never going to drink AGAIN!” Yeah, we’ve heard that before…

4. The Commander

200

She is a take-charge type of gal (usually self-appointed), who tries to assume command of the group and move it from bar to bar in accordance with her unspoken master plan.

“We are going to Houston Hall everyone! Let’s go!”

You can tell this person gets impatient and angry when the Scatterbrain of the group can’t seem to find her keys or ID. She wants everyone to have the same sense of urgency she does.

But, guess what? We’re all drunk, so good luck!

5. The Crier

200-1

The crier always has a couple of girls around them consoling them about what appears to be the end of the world.

But when you try to see what’s wrong, it usually ends up being something like the boy she has a crush on isn’t paying that much attention to her.

I’m always surprised when this girl gets so much sympathy in these situations. I say, get your act together and talk to someone else if your crush isn’t talking to you.

Newsflash: He probably doesn’t want to talk to you because you’re the crazy girl crying in the middle of the bar.

6. The Fighter

200-4

This person is having fun in the beginning of the night until one little thing gets them angry. Then they completely change their tune.

Someone will say something casually in a conversation and the fighter will decide that it was the last straw and not talk to that person for the rest of the night.

Yeah, I remember middle school too.

Then one of their guy friends tries to confront them, and they tell him that he’s being a little bitch. This might turn into a physical altercation.

You can’t win with this guy. You have to tread lightly around the fighter when he’s in one of his moods.

Luckily, the next day, he will probably have no idea what he was mad about. Classic.

7. The Mama Bear

200-2

This sweetheart has a maternal instinct that kicks in when her friends start making alcohol-fueled decisions.

Throughout the night, she’s cleaning up spilled beers and broken bottles. She’s consoling the crier, trying to diffuse the tension that the fighter has built, and she's the one holding the Lightweight's hair at the end of the night.

Bless her soul. Her selflessness helps everyone have a better night.

We could all afford to be more like the Mama Bear. Much Love.

8. The Scatterbrain

200-2

This sad case is always one of the first to fall by the wayside.

She forgets her ID and gets separated from the group because her cell phone is dead. She's almost certainly had her picture on a milk carton at some point in her life.

Luckily, this happens to her all of the time, so everyone is confident she will live through yet another one of her nights of heavy drinking and carelessness.

The Commander leaves her behind— she doesn’t have time for her amateur hour behavior. Even Mama Bear has given up on her. The Scatterbrain is honestly just a lost cause.

Almost as lost as her ID. Boom!

9. The Amorous Drunk

200-3

This is a nice way of saying, "a lil' bit slutty." This girl gets a couple drinks in her and immediately seeks a male’s attention.

She will do whatever it takes even if that means throwing herself at them and making out with their faces without the slightest encouraging sign on the receiving end.

This is always painful to watch as the victim looks around with desperate eyes trying to find anyone to help him escape this attack.

The next day she will tell her friends how that guy was all over her. Delusion at its finest.

10. Party Pooper

200

“Every party has a pooper, that’s why we invited you!”

This person just sits in the corner, sipping their beer, with their arms crossed and face sullen. Everything that people do or say will evoke a glare or scoff from this person.

They talk about how lame the party is and how bored they are.

“Can’t we go somewhere fun? This is so lame!”

Cheer up, buttercup! Life’s too short to be such a downer. If you’re really having such a shitty time, don’t bring us all down with you. You might as well hop on the party train before you’re permanently labeled the party pooper.

And no one likes a party pooper.

11. The Pothead

200

This person will always be having a good time.

They’ll probably want to have a really deep conversation with you about how crazy it is that we are living in NYC and so are millions of other people that we have never met before. How crazy is that??

Also, playing games with this person is hilarious. They’re way slower than everyone else and will just giggle at everything that is happening as if it’s the funniest thing they’ve ever heard. I mean, the game is funny, but not that funny.

By the end of the night, this person will be begging anyone to leave the bar with them to get food.

“Let’s get pizza!”

But, let’s be real. Who can turn that offer down? Everyone loves drunk pizza.
