Weekend Withdrawls: 7 Reasons Why New Yorkers Always Have and Will Hate Mondays

It’s now 8:20 a.m. and you’ve already snoozed your alarm for the third time this morning. Your head starts to spin as the thought of leaving your bed finally sets in.

The option to stay comfortably in your bed or pay your rent this month forces you to make a difficult choice, as you unwillingly pull yourself out of bed and drag your ass to work.

It’s Monday, the most dreaded day of the week.

To sum it up, Mondays absolutely suck and here’s why.

1. Utter exhaustion

Mondays literally feel longer than any other day of the week. After all, according to science, time is relative, especially considering that a Monday feels longer than your entire weekend.

A normal 12-hour Monday feels like you’ve just completed the Five Borough Bike Tour. Twice.

2. Weekend withdrawals

You’re still recovering from the weekend.

It could be from the unnecessary amount of alcohol consumption or you might be suffering from weekend withdrawals after the well-deserved 48 hours of freedom, or maybe even a combo of both.

Regardless of the fact, you’re just not ready for the weekend to end.

3. Shameless guilt

So, remember that to-do list you made specifically for the weekend, you know the one where you planned to do laundry, hang out with a friend, and actually clean your apartment?

Well guess what, it’s now Monday and you’ve realized that your idea of being productive consisted of binge watching an entire season of Broad City on Hulu and ordering Seamless.

Dammit, guess those chores will have to wait until next weekend.

4. Four more days till Friday

Mondays mean the start of a new week and five more energy depleting days until the weekend.

Need I say more…?

5. You’re just not in the mood

“How was your weekend?” This has to be everyone’s least favorite question on Monday morning.

Not only do you not want to share what you’ve done over the weekend, but this completely forced workplace conversation is the last thing you want to have as you unenthusiastically walk into work-- fifteen minutes late.

6. Inbox overload

Oh and then there’s my Monday morning favorite (NOT!): the flooded inbox.

You log on to your computer and open Outlook just to be bombarded by an entire army of emails that came in over the weekend.

Why on earth do people send work related emails on the weekend anyways?

I’ve heard that sending work-related emails on the weekend is banned in over 71 countries. Ok well maybe it’s not but it should be. Insert cringe face emoji here.

7. Nothing but boredom

Mondays just aren’t fun!

I’m sure you’ve heard of ‘Taco Tuesdays’, ‘Wine Wednesdays’ and Sangria Saturdays (Ok I made that last one up) but have you ever heard of ‘Margarita Mondays’?

Probably not, and that’s because people hate Mondays so much they would never associate it with a cool drink or food. Bummer!
