Broadway is one of New York City's favorite pastimes, as it's something quintessential to the New York experience.
Broadway plays are a place where tourists and city dwellers alike can reconcile their differences and enjoy a night On the Town (see what we did there?) and some high quality entertainment.
New York City’s Lyric Theater has recently opened its doors to On the Town, a revival of a widely popular 1940s musical comedy about three sailors who get to spend twenty-four hours in New York City, and it’s wonderful.
We could go on and on about the musical numbers that will get delightfully stuck in your head, but instead, we’ll give you 7 amazing reasons why you should see On the Town.

1. The tunes are catchy

We dare you to see On the Town and not spend the next seventy-two hours humming to the tune of “New York, New York.”
The songs themselves are well sung and entertaining. Try not to burst out of your seat with the urge to break out into song and dance, will ya?
2. The dance numbers are kick-ass

On the Town’s high energy dance numbers are just as fun as they are elegant.
The numbers range from breathtaking ballet to high flying flips and jumps to bodacious belly-dancing, and of course, everything in between.
3. Hot sailors running around NYC

We repeat: hot sailors running around NYC.
Yes, they are wearing white sailor uniforms and hats. Chip, Gabey, and Ozzie are charming, handsome, and romantic, and you know for a fact that they can sing and dance like the best of them.
These three best friends and eligible bachelors came all the way to New York to see the sights and win your heart. You can count on these guys to bring you on a Big Apple adventure that you’re bound not to forget.
4. It also has some beautiful babes and they are laugh out loud funny

Chip and Ozzie meet Hildy, a boisterous, sassy cab driver, and Claire, a crazy anthropologist, and they prove to bring big laughs to the audience.
Watch them seduce the boys and cause trouble, like Claire and Ozzie do when they accidentally and epically destroy a restored dinosaur skeleton at the Museum of Natural History.
5. Madame Dilly

Technically, Madame Dilly is one of the show’s villains, but she’s also hilarious.
Her raspy vocal chords and ridiculous vocal lessons are a riot, and when she sneaks away to break out her flask-- conveniently hidden in her piano and bench-- you’ll be laughing in fits.

Have you already not been convinced by amazing dance numbers and beautiful sailors?
Check out this music video that follows the three main men themselves, and their excitement is contagious as they explore the city’s landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park, in real life.
7. It takes place in the best city in the world

When you watch On the Town and you see the wonder and excitement in Ozzie, Chip, and Gabey, you can’t help but feel a lot of pride and love for this amazing city.
On the Town is all the proof that you need that New York is a “hell of a town!” Not convinced yet? You better be!
