La Colombe NoHo (400 Lafayette Street)
This authentically Italian (read: strong, dark coffee) place is so feng shui, you’ll barely feel their strong caffeine. You can claim one of the small tables or pull up at the bar, or even bring the team for a coffee klatch at one of the communal tables in the far back.

Irving Farm Upper West Side (224 West 79th Street)
Step through the stylized iron gates into an urban meadow of reclaimed woods and the babbling of Japanese-style pour-overs.
Aside from serving the best latte in the neighborhood, their pastry selection is always fresh and delicious-- be sure to get there early enough to snag a green tea and lemon cookie, if you would like a real treat.
Toby’s Estate Williamsburg (125 North Sixth Street - Brooklyn)
If the interior designers could see the potential for this modern, airy shop in a former meat factory, maybe you’ll finally be able to find your muse, too.
The space teems with energy, flooded with sunlight from the massive windows, and floor-to-ceiling shelves make it feel just enough like a study to keep you on task.
Cafe Grumpy Chelsea (224 West 20th Street)
The back patio feels like something out of a fairytale book, with crawling vines along the white wall and the kind of tranquility that’s always surprising to find in Manhattan. Inside, perch on one of the cheery yellow stools to sip their ethically sourced coffee among Chelsea’s glamorous hoi poloi.

Queens Kickshaw (40-17 Broadway - Queens)
For some seriously writerly atmosphere, head to the long wooden table in the back to sit under quirky lights that cast the modern version of candlelight as you toil away at your own great American novel (or just Broad City fan fiction). This spot is known as much for craft brews and as cappuccinos, and you won't regret ordering either.
