Generation Y is known for being very passionate, headstrong, and outspoken.
We are very proud of ourselves and capable of doing great things. We will change the world in ways that no other generation before us was able to. We are very conscious of the ills in our society, and we are committed to giving our voices to social change.
However, even as we are realizing our potential, there are still some things that we struggle with as we are make our way into the world. While we are confident and heroic, we also discourage ourselves too easily.
Sometimes, we’re afraid to open up or to go for something that we’d really love to do-- whether it’s for a job, an opportunity to travel, or a relationship we don’t think we deserve.
Here are 11 weak ass excuses that millennials make and why it’s crucial for us to stop making them-- like right now.
1. “I don’t have any money”

Getting settled on your own is a huge adjustment to make. Maybe you were fortunate enough to be supported by your parents up until now, and coping with handling your finances by yourself for the first time has been rough.
It’s super hard to be responsible with the money you earn, we totally hear you, but you need to prioritize your basic expenses before you start spending your money on leisurely things.
You won’t make millions off your entry-level job, and you won’t become a corporate baller overnight, so stop spending like one. Live within your means and maybe you’ll feel more financially stable and comfortable.
2. “I don’t want to be tied down right now”

We’re in our twenties, living on the dawn of a decade of career possibility and self-exploration, so no one should be trying to tie you down right now.
We’re all in the same boat. We have things that are more important to us, and then there are the things that we shouldn’t be worrying about right now like buying a house, getting married, and having kids.
Just because someone approaches you romantically doesn’t mean that the relationship needs to be expedited to the highest level. Our biological clocks don’t always have to be ticking.
3. “I’m not qualified for this position”

Don’t tell yourself that you’re not good enough, or smart enough, for a certain job. How can you be positive that it’s not the right fit if you don’t even try?
4. “I’m too busy to hang out”

Your friends offer you a great support system that you can count on to pick you up when you’re feeling down, so don’t isolate yourself from them.
Sure, we’re all obviously super busy. Life is hectic and so much of our time is dedicated to our jobs and our schoolwork (if we’re still in school), but if someone is out there making himself or herself available to you, you shouldn’t ice them out or make yourself unavailable.
Friendships can’t survive if they’re one-sided, remember that, will ya?
5. “I wish I could travel more, but I can’t because ______”

We are fascinated by the opportunities to travel. We are very interested in getting to know cultures other than our own, and we like to experience new places and the things they have to offer us.
Many of us don’t have the time or money to jet off on a trip at a moment’s notice, but a vacation is a good thing to work towards.
Save up some money and personal time off at work instead of spending money and wasting sick days when you’re not really sick. That way, you can see and experience the world around you in the way you’ve always dreamed of.
6. “I didn’t come out because I was too tired/busy”

There will absolutely be nights where you aren’t in the mood for going out, or you’re too sick or exhausted to make it out, because you had a long and draining week.
On these occasions, take the night off, but don’t make these excuses often. Also, you’re so young and full of life, why wouldn’t you want to spend your time hanging out with friends, meeting new people, and trying out new places?
You’re just going to feel like you’re crazy if you spend too much time alone, and no one wants that. Get out there!
,7. “I want to get in shape, but I hate going to the gym”

So don’t go! There are plenty of ways for you to be active without plunking down your hard-earned cash on a gym membership.

You could go for walks in your neighborhood or in a nearby park, you could invest in a workout DVD that you can do at home, or you could see what YouTube has to offer in terms of workouts that are quick and easy to do in your living room or bedroom.
8. “I wish I ate better”

Well, there’s no reason why you can’t.
Maybe skip delivery and take-out in favor of buying some fresh fruits and vegetables. Start packing your own lunches instead of ordering food out every day.
You don’t need to be a gourmet chef or shop exclusively at Whole Foods to eat healthier. A few small changes to your diet and grocery shopping can go a long way.
9. “No one wants to hire me”

Yes they do! Don’t be afraid to live your dreams. Your interests, studies, and talents are what make you stand out for being uniquely you.
You may not be the cookie-cutter description of a candidate for a job, but that doesn’t mean that the position won’t bring out the best qualities in you.
Some job out there is looking for you, exactly you, to bring your passions in life right through the doors of their company.
10. “I don’t think ______ likes me”

How do you know? Don’t be afraid of new people, whether it’s a possible love interest, a coworker, or a new friend.
Don’t let them have all the control over you and how you act around them. Be open to new people and give them the chance to be open with you.
If it doesn’t work out, it’s their loss, as you are a great person and shouldn’t need some as*hole to validate that for you.
11. “New York is too expensive/infuriating/big for me”

We all have those days where we feel like New York is not the place for us.
Life in the big city is intimidating at times, but instead of giving up on your dreams and city life, take them in stride.
