It’s Friday night at 9:30 p.m., and you’ve just received that dreaded, “What are you doing tonight!?!” text from one of your friends.
Usually, you can rally when you get this message, but tonight, you were looking forward to wearing your most comfortable flannel pajamas, watching Netflix, and romancing a tub of your favorite ice cream in your bed.
There’s a time and a place for everything, but unless your friends totally suck, they will probably be able to convince you to leave your bed.
Here are those 10 horrible stages of going out when you'd rather stay home.
1. Trying to come up with excuses to stay in, but failing

Your plans of peacefully staying in are officially foiled. You’re going to hang onto your solitude the best you can, so you begin to brainstorm things you could say to get you out of tonight’s festivities.
You could say your brother is graduating, but he graduated six years ago. You could blame a mysterious ailment, but you’re afraid no one will believe you when you’re actually sick. You could even pretend to be asleep.
Finally, you accept that you really just don’t have an excuse and agree to meet up with your crew.
2. Taking two hours to meet up with friends

You’re usually not one to take forever to get ready, but you’re, like, halfway through Gone Girl, so you ignore all those texts asking when you’re coming in favor of finishing it.
After the movie is done, then you’ll get dressed... except you feel like your whole wardrobe is sweatpants or work clothes, so it’ll end up taking you longer than you’d like to admit.
3. Getting there and then coming up with an excuse for why it took you so long

Your crew will be happy to see you, for sure, but they’ll want to know what took you so long to show up.
You were studying for your CPA exam...no, you were Skyping with your sister. No, that’s dumb too. Should you just come clean about your pajama party with Gone Girl, Ben, and Jerry?
4. Constantly checking your phone for the time

One of the conditions of you going out was that you weren’t going to stay out all night. You want to get home with just enough time for you to get in some good ol' trash TV before the sun comes up.
It’s only 1 a.m.? That means you can get home by 1:30, watch your shows until 2:30, and then call it a night. Perfect!
5. Trying to leave but being convinced to stay

You put your leather coat on and announce to your nearby friend that you are leaving. “WHAT! But it’s only 1:30. You can’t go right now!” is your friend will say, probably throwing in there how much he or she loves you and is glad that you’re best friends, and how awesome it was that you came out tonight.
Damn it, those friends of yours can be so persuasive!
6. Having too many drinks and getting tired

Throughout this night that you didn’t sign up for, you did manage to get turnt up and drink more than you promised yourself you would.
Now you are drunk, but not drunk in the sense that you’re ready to get wild and own the world, but drunk in the sense that you are just sooooooo tired-- to the point of not being fun anymore and wishing you were in bed. Turn down for... you?
7. Leaving when your friends aren’t looking

Your friends are finally enraptured in a conversation that doesn’t involve you, so you're finally able to slink out of the party, bar, or club that you’re at.
You probably feel guilty about not saying goodbye, but you didn’t want to be here to begin with, remember?
8. Stopping to get food on your way home

As you get off the subway or out of the Uber that got you home, you remembered that there’s a sweet pizza place that’s just around the block from your apartment.
You’re drunk and hungry (naturally), so you have to stop in for a slice of ‘za. You pay for your pizza and scurry back to your place before someone you know recognizes you.
9. Getting the “Where are you?!” text

As you’re scarfing down that pizza, your phone starts blowing up.
It’s your friends wondering where you’re at because you left without saying anything. Maybe one of your closer friends or hookups will call you a thousand times in hopes of getting you to come back out.
You could play it one of two ways: you could answer and let them know you went home, or you could let it wait until the morning.
10. Passing the f*ck out

You let all those calls go to voicemail and messages go unanswered because you’re practically passing out face first into the last uneaten quarter of your now room temperature pizza.
All your hopes and dreams of having that glorious night-in have been shattered, and your ambitions of a productive tomorrow are dead.
Hopefully you’re feeling more fun and exciting next weekend... but who knows.
