Springtime Boogie Down: 7 Must-Do Things to Cross Off Your Bucket List This Spring in the Bronx

Guess what, New Yorkers?

It's spring... yea, we know, it's hard to believe it when we woke up to a blanket of snow on the ground only yesterday, but according to the calendar, we should be seeing new buds on the trees any day now.

So while it may not be time to hang up those puffer jackets yet (hopefully soon?) we're still getting ready for warmer weather.

In honor of the first week of spring, we've put together a bucket list by borough of must-hit events for this spring.

What should you be doing in the Bronx? We gotchu.

Check out these incredible events happening in the Bronx this spring.

First Fridays for Havana Film Festival (April 1st)

welcome2thebronx

Did you know that this year is the 17th Annual Havana Film Festival New York hosted by the Bronx Museum of the Arts?

Starting on April 1st, the Bronx Museum of the Arts is screening La rumba me llama, a short film illustrating the development of rumba.

There will also be a performance by Melvis Santa & The Ashedi Project and music by DJ ASHO. This event is free, though, bring cash if you want anything from the bar.

Yankees Opening Day (April 4th)

aboynamedtsui

The Bronx Bombers are back as of April 4th, kicking off their 2016 season with a home opener against the Houston Astros.

Head out to Yankee Stadium to see if ARod, Tex, and co. can start the year off right and take the Yankees to their 28th World Series win.

The Orchid Show: Orchidelirium (February 27th - April 17th)

muscarilondon

The 14th annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden is currently underway. What better way to get you in the mood for spring than by strolling through walls of beautifully colored orchids?

Head on out during the day to check out dance performances, poetry readings, shopping, and demonstrations, or check them out at night for some more adult fun, with specialized cocktails, beer, and wine.

Run for the Wild at the Bronx Zoo (April 30th)

Like animals? How about running? If you said yes to both questions, you need to sign up for the Run for the Wild 5k and Family Fun Run on April 30th at the Bronx Zoo.

The run includes free zoo admission, a silent disco, a rock climbing wall, face painting, and (for the adults) a beer garden... though we wouldn't advise hitting that up before logging in the miles.

The event is held by the Wildlife Conservation Society, which strives to protect animals and their habitats.

The Bronx Brewery Backyard Party (April 30th)

thebronxbrewery

Want to know where we'll be on April 30th? We'll be rockin' out at the grand opening of The Bronx Brewery's seasonal backyard, along with bands, food trucks, and a whole lot of really excellent beer.

What better way is there to celebrate the beginning of spring than sipping fine local brews from The Bronx Brewery amid music from local bands amid a comfortably cool spring breeze? That was rhetorical... there is no better way to usher in the spring.

We'll update you with more details when they become available.

bronxlittleitaly

If you're an auto enthusiast, you need to check out the second annual car show in the Bronx Little Italy (aka, the real Little Italy in NYC).

Apart from incredible classic and exotic cars on display, there will be food, music, and prizes. The event will be held on Crescent Avenue, so if you get too hungry, you can head over to Arthur Ave and snag some incredible Italian.

Bronx Week (May 5th - May 15th)

killrlipstik

Each spring, the The Bronx Tourism Council throws a ten day series of events to celebrate the borough and what it has to offer.
