Chicken. Waffles. Heaven.
Those are the three words that come to mind when re-living the dining experience at Sweet Chick’s new Long Island City location.
The decor is modern-meets-down home eating, and the food swings it all the way home.
We started with the “Cuffin Season” cocktail, made with cinnamon plum black tea rum, orgeat (an almond syrup), pomegranate juice, pineapple juice, Benedictine, and lime juice. It also had a super pretty flower as a garnish.
The result? To kill for. (which, in our minds, is a dramatic notch above “to die for”)
Next, the cuisine.
We were first offered a taste of the macaroni and cheese, which is prepared with a blend of fontina, gruyere, and aged white cheddar cheeses, and topped with a Ritz cracker crust.
It was, as you can imagine, scrumptious. Scrumptious isn’t a word we use often, so when it does, it’s worth noting.
The shrimp and grits were creamy and packed with a punch, exquisitely setting the stage for the main event.
That being, of course, the chicken and waffles. Upon their arrival, skies parted, angels sang, and doves flew.
The crust on the chicken was crunchy and flavorful, the meat juicy and tender. The waffles were borderline sexual, and if we could marry food, the save-the-date would already be in the mail.
The Long Island City spot is the fourth location to open in the NYC area, and this one boasts a private room in the back if you wanna gather some folks and have a jazzy good time.
While we only got to taste a few of the dishes, the entire menu looks mouth-watering.
Did we love it? Yes.
Will we be back? Mmhmm.
Are we already on our way? Busted.
