'Tis the Season: Escape the City with These Memorable Wintertime Excursions 🎿🏂⛷

Wintertime is upon us in New York City and while dreary weather may seem to slow down the day to day hustle, companies like Sourced Adventures offer cheap weekend getaways to keep the cold months exciting.

Sourced Adventures does exactly what their name sounds like, they source adventurous excursions, making it easy to plan a fun and affordable getaways starting from $89. So when it came time for me to plot my escape, I knew exactly where to turn.

I perused their neatly laid-out website and found a weekend trip to Hunter Mountain, a name I've known as a New York mainstay for years, and it fit perfectly into my immediate life plans. This trip caught my eye with snowboarding and skiing options, bus transportation, rentals, and the chance to take lessons -- so I booked it right away.

When the day came and I was waiting early in the morning for the bus, I started to get even more pumped. Once the charter bus arrived, it was loaded with others who were also ready to catch some thrills, share some laughs, and make great memories.

As my friend and I began our two and a half hour bus journey to Hunter Mountain, our hospitable adventure guide shared cold brew coffee, granola bars and kombucha with us, as well as taking a vote for an in-transit movie. After an upset in votes, the guide queued up Bruce Almighty on DVD and then explained what would happen once we got to the mountain, disclosing emergency information, and describing where to find what we needed.

Feeling most prepared for what I was about to experience, I filled up on a smoothie-filled granola bar, drank my kombucha, and took a Jim Carrey-fueled nap with my cold brew stowed away for arrival. Shredding gnar was upon us, so extra rest was essential, sorry Jim.

I peeped a dream behind my eyelids of playing in the snow, and before I knew it was all in my head, I woke up to a snowy peak peering at me through the bus windows -- we had arrived. Upon coming back to my senses, our adventure guide prepped us yet again on the safety procedures and lay of the land.

Knowing that nothing stood in our way except for returning to the bus at 4:00 PM sharp, my friend and I made the entire mountain our playground. We then grabbed our tickets from the guide, gathered our gear, and hit the welcome center.

What's best is that at the heart of it all was Sourced Adventures, who aims to deliver an amazing experiential adventure for anyone who wants to get away.

We left our bus loaded with everyone from beginners to advanced mountain dwellers, got geared up, and found ourselves staring the peak in the face — it was time to approach the lift. As we sat in the chair and ascended, we saw the newcomers taking lessons at the base of the mountain, and the true pros at the highest point, shredding with ease.

We were surrounded by all types of snowboarders and skiers, using this time to collect our thoughts and get ready for the inevitable shredding. What a sight: a winter wonderland with excitement coursing through its landscape and people making the best out of the elements.

So once the lift reached the top, I put my board to the ground, turned to face the drop, and started cooking with gas. Seriously,  I couldn't have asked for a better trip.
