Ever secretly dreamed of adding your tag to the city’s legendary graffiti scene?

If you want to give it a go but never knew where to start, you’ll find everything you need at Scrap Yard. It's the underground Soho “mecca of graffiti culture” that has been quietly keeping the city’s artists stocked for over 20 years, since 1992!

With a neon “We Sell Paint” sign glowing from behind colorful posters and its name displayed overhead in sprawling black letters, its hard to imagine a hipper place to pick up the goods.

The store recently made the news because of a change in ownership, but new head honcho James Espino has declared his intention to stay true to store’s worn aesthetic and graffiti focus.

But Espino's got some fresh ideas, too. He wants to broaden the shop's scope to offer greater varieties of art supplies like markers and non-spray paint to cater to the more pedestrian crowd.

If you’d stop short of trying your hand but still want to learn about this unique aspect of NYC culture, the store also sells books on the art, stickers, and avant-garde graffiti-inspired apparel if you just want to look like you’ve got what it takes. We won't tell.

The store is located at 300 West Broadway and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily (with an 8 p.m. closing time on Sundays).

Swing by next time you’re feeling a little wild!
