As you know, the Rink at Rockefeller Center opened last Saturday.
It's cold enough for sweaters, so it's cold enough to tie on your skates– beat out the holiday crowds (trust us, this is in your best interests) and hit up the rink now.
This year also marks the rink's 80th Anniversary season, despite being designed as a temporary attraction, and they will be celebrating on Tuesday, October 11th at 10 a.m. with special performances.
Olympic silver medalist– and New Yorker– Sasha Cohen will be hosting the opening ceremony and child skaters from Ice Theatre of New York and Figure Skating in Harlem will be taking the first skate of the season.
“I have skated at historical venues all over the world, though none quite as iconic as The Rink at Rockefeller Center,” said Cohen.
“I have so many wonderful memories of performing here over the years. I am incredibly honored to be a part of this 80th season anniversary celebration and am looking forward to skating at The Rink at Rockefeller Center once again!”
There will also be a public performance of the ballet "The Three Smokers," commissioned by Ice Theatre of New York and performed by a trio of skaters from Ice Dance International. "The Three Smokers" is choreographed by Edward Villella, who is also celebrating his own 80th birthday.

Along with the festivities, the rink and its surrounding restaurants will be throwing back to its original opening year.
Menu options will have nostalgic touches, including a celebratory three-course dinner for two and "The Preakness" cocktail, created in 1936 with Redemption rye.
Also, the skate house will be decorated with historical photos and they will be playing Billboard #1 songs from the last 80 years.
The Rink at Rockefeller Center is located on 5th Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets. If you can't make it to the opening festivities, you can still skip the line by making a reservation online.
