How the MTA Removes Ice from the Tracks

This winter we've shown you how the MTA removes heavy snow from its tracks, but last night was the first real need to de-ice the tracks.

The frigid temperatures combined with the wintry mix of weather we had yesterday caused the trains' tracks to freeze.

On times like this, the MTA unleashes their R-21 De-Icing train to take care of the frozen tracks for other trains to safely use.

This video, uploaded by YouTube user Dj Hammers, shows the converted R-21 subway car from the 1950's passing through the Pelham Parkway station.
