The Annual Global Citizens Festival began in 2012, as a social action platform working to end some of the major issues in the world today.
Although there are a variety of problems addressed, the main objective of the event, and the ongoing efforts of Global Citizens around the world is to end extreme poverty.
This year, Global Citizens is expanding, with Global Citizens Week, running from September 17th up until the festival on September 23rd.
The week features public speakers, panels, and other musical acts all in support of the Global Citizen initiative. Activists, campaigners, and other advocates for change from around the world will be taking part in the week.
To start off the week will be "Breaking the Silence: Beyond the Dream", in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s "Beyond Vietnam" speech. The event will be on September 17th at Riverside Church, NYC.

The annual festival serves as an incentive for as many people as possible to get involved, by making their voices heard on important issues. One person speaking out about a problem will only reach so far, and Global Citizens enables anyone, of nearly any age, to get involved in very easy, yet meaningful ways.
Issues like world hunger, environment, education, are all problems that we care about, though we don't always make the steps towards taking action. It can be difficult to be useful on an individual level, but this movement gives us the ability to focus in on quick, effective ways to do our part.
As a product of your efforts, you can earn the chance to attend the festival, which has hosted big names in the past five years, such as John Legend, Rihanna, Chris Martin, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, and the list goes on.
For those of you unsure how to get involved, by downloading the app, you are regularly notified of numerous ways you can help with various worldwide causes. Your impact could be as easy as retweeting an important tweet to a politician or legislator, bringing an issue to light.
The more you get involved, the more you participate, the more points you earn on the app. As your number of points increase, your chance of winning tickets will increase as well.
Global Citizen Week is a great way for you to get involved and to get excited for the concert on September 23rd, at Central Park, Great Lawn. Performances by Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers, The Chainsmokers, and many more!
