Friday, March 23rd
1. Abstract: Body Painting Dance Party (411 Troutman St @ 10 PM)
There’s seldom a shortage of amazing art events going on in New York City.
But why just see art when you can BE art? At this rockin' event, guests are encouraged to come painted, or to get painted by one of the amazing artists that will be on hand! But if that’s not your vibe, you can also just come to dance and enjoy the views.
Just make sure you ask permission from anyone painted before you snap that perfect shot!
2. Porches (66 North 6th St @ 9 PM)
Rev up your Friday night with the innovative and exciting tunes of Aaron Maine’s synthpop project, Porches, over at Brooklyn’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg!
Also featured as opening acts will be experimental upstate NY trio Palberta and trendy trio of “heavy hearted harmonizers” Girl Ray.
Doors will open at 8 PM for a 9 PM show.
3. Korean Winds (1000 Fifth Ave @ 6 PM)
Maybe you’re an expert on the drums and the piano, but have you ever heard of the piri and saengwhang? Broaden your musical horizons and catch a program at The Met, featuring celebrated artist Gamin on the above ancient wind-blown instruments.
The show inspired by the exhibition Diamond Mountains: Travel and Nostalgia in Korean Art Performances, is free with a museum admission and will take place at 6 PMin Gallery 233 (Arts of Korea) and at 7 pm in Gallery 684 (Musical Instruments), with a tour of the latter by curator Bradley Strauchen-Scherer to follow each performance.
4. FemCon 2018 (603 Bushwick Ave @ 8 PM)
Ever dreamed of a place where you could celebrate your love of art free of the male gaze? Good news!
This weekend, The Silent Barn will be presenting an all-female and queer comic convention. Today kicks off the proceedings with an “opening fem exhibition” and the fun will continue at 4 tomorrow with a comic/art and cosplay convention presented by Color Scenes.
The event also features DJs, food, live painting with FVDGE NASTE '97, and fashion shows, so you definitely don’t want to miss out!
5. Throwback Friday with Ted Patterson (Wyckoff Ave @ 10 PM)
On a nostalgia kick and ready to jam out to the best of the “80’s, 90’s and 2000s all in one night”? Then Throwback Friday at the House of Yes may be for you!
The venue will be themed to “throwback perfection” including a 90’s fitness workout for early birds and a “Best Friends Basement” featuring video games and pizza, and throwback looks are strongly encouraged if you want to get in on the fun yourself!

6. Out In Tech Talks 2018 (225 Liberty St @ 8:30 AM)
Interested in how the tech world can advance social change and become more diverse? Then join “400 LGBTQ+ techies, and those who love them” for help figuring it out!
The fun starts with a Friday night kickoff at R/Ga featuring a panel on committing to justice and a networking mixer, continues Saturday with a full day of talks, panels, networking, and breakout sessions, and concludes with a closing party at the Moxy hotel’s famous Magic Hour rooftop bar.

7. NYC March for Our Lives (W 72nd St @ 10 AM)
Amidst all the fun you’re going to have this weekend, we hope you can take a few hours out to do something that could make a real impact.
Join thousands of your fellow New Yorkers for a march down Central Park West to show those in power the utter necessity of legislation that will address the issues of gun violence that continue to have a tragic impact on our nation.
A large crowd is expected, and featured speakers who have been personally impacted by gun violence will begin promptly at 11 AM, so we recommend arriving as early as you can.
8. Uptown Forever: Celebrate Her (170 W 231 St @ 12 PM)
Join The Bronx Public for their first “#uptownforever” event of 2018, dedicated to celebrating women! Check out art and great vibes. Hip-Hop, R&B, and island blends will also be provided by DJs Rodney Hazard and Young Wavy Fox.
Entry is free with RSVP, and food and drink specials will be available. Brunch will be served from 12-4 PM, with a party to follow!
9. Zoolander with a Boozy Orange Mocha Frappuccino (308 Bedford Ave @ 9:30 PM)
You can never go wrong with movies and booze, and no NYC venue knows that better than Brooklyn’s Videology!
This week, they’re showing Zoolander, which features Ben Stiller as the titular “dimwitted male model” who eventually gets brainwashed into participating in a zany political scandal.
Your boozy Frappuccino, inspired by one of the film’s inside jokes, is included with admission, and you can redeem your ticket at the bar afterward for $2 off your round two!
10. Funhouse Interactive Bookfair (35 Wooster St @ 11 AM Saturday and Sunday)
This Saturday and Sunday, get inspired at this unique interactive bookfair from Desert Island and The Drawing Center!
Guests will interact with resident artists to create unique pages for one of a kind books to be assembled on-site. The $10 ticket includes admission and various special events like an Eyeworks Animation Screening, a Sideshow Variety Hour, and talks on DIY practices, or a pricier $40 ticket will also get you into a special Comic Zine workshop.
11. Inaugural Gotham Archery Tournament (480 Baltic St @ 9AM Saturday and Sunday)
If you’re passionate about archery and ready to put your skills to the test, this is the event for you! This Saturday and Sunday, Gotham Archery is hosting their first-ever tournament in their Brooklyn location.
For a $35 entry fee, you can compete in the Olympic Recurve, Barebow, or Compound division, with prizes available for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners in each division. Today is the last day to register and be sure to bring your own equipment!

13. The Struggle to Close Attica: Voices from the March for Justice (200 Eastern Parkway @ 2 PM)
If you’re interested in reforming our prison system, make your way to the Brooklyn Museum for a screening of a documentary short about last September’s March for Justice, a 19-day protest that sought to close the corrupt Attica Correctional Facility.
Afterward, stick around for a panel from the Alliance of Families for Justice which will further explore why they marched “to demand an end to human rights abuses that continue in Attica and in prisons here and throughout the country”.
14. "Hope" Artist Talk and Horticulture Walk (43-50 Main St @ 2 PM)
Want to get the inside scoop on the Queens Botanical Garden’s newest offering? Join artist Laura Fantini and the garden’s horticultural staff for a “discussion of the stories behind her work and a walk to see different depicted species growing in QBG’s living collections”.
If you can’t make it today, the exhibition, which features “intricately detailed pencil drawings” of seeds the artist has collected throughout NYC and Italy, will be on view until April 29th.9
