Last night, we had the chance to attend the exclusive preview party for Dumpling Xi's brand-new East Village location (71 4th Avenue), marking the brand’s highly anticipated first opening in Manhattan. Just ahead of today’s official grand opening, the celebration gave guests an early look—and taste—of what’s made Dumpling Xi a household name in China, with more than 800 locations and a fiercely loyal following.
From the moment I stepped inside the 70-seat space, I could tell this was more than just a casual dumpling spot. The minimalist design, warm hospitality, and open dining room created the perfect setting for a sit-down experience focused entirely on freshness. In fact, Dumpling Xi doesn’t offer takeout or delivery at all—a bold move in New York, but one that makes complete sense once you try the food fresh from the kitchen.

Fish & Vegetable Hot Pot and Dumpling Spread at Dumpling Xi
We sampled highlights from their internationally recognized menu, starting with chilled small plates like the Tossed Lotus Root Shaped Noodles and Beef Mixed with Wood Ear Mushrooms, before diving into their crave-worthy hot pots, which quickly became a crowd favorite. The Fish Fillet & Vegetable and Beef & Vegetable Hot Pots arrived in a perfectly spicy, tangy broth that was deeply comforting.
Of course, the dumplings were the main event—and they did not disappoint. We tried several varieties, including the Celery & Pork, Zucchini Egg & Shrimp, and the Shrimp Chive & Egg dumplings, all freshly made to order and served piping hot.
Between the exceptional food, thoughtful design, and emphasis on tradition, Dumpling Xi has created something special in the East Village—a place that celebrates the dumpling not just as a dish, but as a cultural cornerstone. It’s exciting to see this beloved Chinese brand bring its story to Manhattan, and I’m already planning my return visit.
