Coney Island is known worldwide for its amusement parks and beach getaways. Since the late 1800s, it has been a go-to destination for New York City thrills; and that classification has stayed intact to this day.
Sea Lion Park, the first enclosed amusement park, was opened in 1895 at Coney Island, followed by Steeplechase Park in 1897, Luna Park in 1903, and Dreamland in 1904. Many rides from these early days still exist at the boardwalk, though everything costs slightly more than a nickel as it was in the days of yore.
Aside from amusement thrills, Coney Island has a proclivity for art, and it is majorly exhibited through the Coney Art Walls. These walls are plastered with murals created by dozens of local and worldwide artists, all on display for the public to enjoy.
What adds even more excitement to the Coney Art Walls is the Quiet Clubbing Festival taking place there on Saturday, September 15.
The Art Walls were started by Jeffrey Deitch and Joseph Sitt in 2015 as an outdoor museum of street art. It has evolved to showcase more artists over the years and 2018 is set out to be the best so far.
What adds even more excitement to the Coney Art Walls is the Quiet Clubbing Festival taking place there on Saturday, September 15.
The event is comprised of three DJs playing different genres of music and competing for your attention on one stage, while you have the option to tune in to whichever one you want to hear. When attendees enter the event they will be given specially designed headphones with a switch, allowing them to choose what they want to tune into. Thanks to LED lights on the sides of the headphone you can tell who is listening to what channel.
With the option to remove your headphones to have a conversation, or to switch to a different DJ’s channel, the Quiet Clubbing Festival presents an event unlike any other.
