Alright, alright, alright hold on just one second.
We've seen Fear Factor. And we know that there was always that one guy (he was really all of us, wasn't he?) that couldn't make it to the next round because he couldn't eat a larva lasagna without blowing his chunks on live television.
This weekend brings NYC's first ever festival dedicated to edible insects to Brooklyn. You might be apprehensive. We get it. But don't squish the spider on your bathroom mirror just yet. Or do. It might make a great addition to your fave dessert.
We've known for a while now that insects like crickets provide twice as much protein as meat and are more environmentally friendly. If we can get over our PTSD watching Steve ingest that larva dish (with plenty of gag-worthy moments) then maybe we'd be interested to know our crunchy pest friends aren't too shabby on top of a fudge sundae.
Catch up and coming bug chefs from T.B.D Brooklyn, Kinfold 94, Brooklyn Kitchen, and more this Friday through Sunday. You can even explore your sciencey side and attend expert panels that will be discussing topics such as the cultural stigmatizing of insects as a food.
Because literally why not.
